“Never Stay At This Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2010

This hotel was the worst place I have every stayed. The carpet looked as if it had come from an incontinent pensioners room, the tap in the shower room was coming away from the basin, the room was so small you really would not have been able to swing a cat, the paintwork was chipped and dirty and there were rats running around at night. We spent all night listening to them scurrying around the wall cavuty and ceiling space. For breakfast we had to walk downthe road and round the corner to the main hotel, something we were not aware of when we booked and the food on offer was vile. The breakfast tables even had dirty artificial flowers on them. We complained when we handed the key back to go and stay at the nearby Premier Inn ( fabulous nights stay, recommend it to anyone ) and did not even get a proper apology. If you ever want a hotel close to the attractions this is one to miss, my skin still crawls when I think about the conditions there.

“Never seen the Sheriff Inn”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2009

We checked in at saturday night, at a moment we saw on all the hotels "Hotel Full". The guy behind the windows (it was too small to be a counter) said they received some complaints about bed bugs and they we're waiting for the exterminator, so we would be transferred to an other hotel. A young guy (connected to his cell phone) brought us to the Marne Hotel, somewhat closer to Victoria Station on Belgrave Road.
I cannot begin to describe this hotel. First of all, I was glad they we're honest enough to tell us about the bed bugs. It's also a possibilty that the hotel was overbooked and they needed a good excuse.
The Marne hotel was old, crappy, small and guest unfriendly. The beds were terrible, I can still feel all the springs. The sink was in the room, simply because there was no room for it in the "bathroom". To get to the bathroom, you had to squeeze through the doorway between the wall and the bed. The bathroom was accessible from both rooms (not shared), so there were double doors. You had to stand in the shower to close the second door, and then there was the toilet. Thank god it was kinda clean.
For the first time I was glad housekeeping didn't show up the next day, now we knew all was still there.

“Cheap and nasty but ok if you just want a bed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2009

The management at this hotel have spared no expense whatsoever on refurbishment and they are probably unlikely to in the near future. The room was pokey and the bathroom seemed to be an afterthought. It was more like a cupboard but everything worked and there was hot water avaiable for the duration.

There was a TV in the room which worked and coffee/tea making facilities although i don't drink either.

There was a huge ceiling fan in our room which was brilliant becasue it was so noisy outside, you couldn't have the windows open and it was so hot.

The position of the hotel is brilliant and if you're paying for anything, it's the location. A shortcut for those seking to get to Victoria station/Tube quickly:

Head for bus station, go through until you reach other end and cross road. Go into back entrance of Victoria station and head down escalator to platform. Walk along platform into station lobby et voila!!! If it's raining, this is a great way to avoid getting wet and going round the main road way will take 10 minutes longer.

There was an ant infestation in the room but thankfully, there were only a few of them and we exterminated them on sight!

Breakfast was a joke. You go down into the basement which is dingy. The milk was off and the bread was stale. I had an orange juice which was the cheapest most watered down stuff i've ever tried so my advice would be to skip breakfast and go elsewhere.

All in all, i slept well and enjoyed my stay. We went down as it was my partners birthday and i took him to see Wicked at the Apollo round the corner. We had a great time and the hotel didn't spoil anything so i would recommend it if you are not too fussy about having a large room but it was very clean and the bathroom was clean and smelled fresh.

Reception was easy and everything was explained fully to us when we arrived.

Certainly not the best by any stretch of the imagination but for £50 for the night, it was ok. Certainly one of the cheapest in the area.

“All in all hotel not to be recommended!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2009

The hotel was very near Victoria coach station just a 2/3 min walk with suitcases. Close to Buckingham place Road. More local shops in the opposite direction inc, Nero coffee shop, Tesco, Sainsbury etc.

Steps to front door. The reception is very cramped, hardly room for two people leave your cases outside!. The reception was “manned” during our stay by a person who speaks poor English. The room we were allocated was not in the main hotel but around the corner 75/100 yards. Steps to front door and narrow stairs to room (no lift) on first floor. (We were given a key to our room and the front door) We had booked a double room en suite. The room was very small, just room for a double bed. No wardrobe, very limited hanging rail with just 3 wire hangers. The window, which over looked a quite street, was a sliding slash held open by a piece of 3x2 timber. The smelly en-suite contained a toilet and shower cubicle which was covered in mould. The en-suite was so small that the wash hand basin was in the main room itself so washing your hands after using the toilet was impossible. I finally found the shower cubicle fan switch and turned it on, it worked! After a while this diluted the smell! The TV was a disaster wires everywhere connected to a sky /freeview box which didn’t work. There was a portable aerial but it was impossible to get a picture!! The smoke alarm above the bed was showing an alarm condition but there was no alarm!!! (I have contacted the local fire station about this) The bed was OK, just, sheets clean, mattress firm not lumpy. The breakfast was in the main hotel and consisted of a stale croissant 4 slices of toast and a pat of butter. As much coffee as you wanted.

All in all hotel not to be recommended!!!

“not bad but not great either”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2009

the hotel was nice although fairly hard to find, was easily walking distance from victoria train station, the room was rather small and not suitable for long stays but 1 or 2 nights easily ok, the bed was comfy and clean, over all i think i would stay there again but only because of the fact that it was so close to the train station
