What a fantastic hotel. My wife and I stayed here to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and found our stay to be relaxing, luxurious and comforting. We originally booked our room through Lastminute.com as one of their Secret Hotel deals and were overjoyed when we realised where we had booked, however the deal wasn't quite as great as we originally thought, with the booking NOT including a breakfast (check your details) We tried contacting Lastminute to see if there was anything they could do, to no avail, no replies, so I contacted the Hotel directly explaining that we were staying on our Wedding Anniversary and received a prompt email offering us a free room upgrade and a complimentary continental breakfast each...result!
On arrival we were greeted warmly, congratulated on our Anniversary and given the key to the room, 714, top floor executive double at the front, with fantastic views of St.Pauls, The Gherkin and BT Tower in the distance. The room was clean and tidy and very comfortable, a nice firm king sized bed, sofa bed, leather swivel chair and a desk and chair. There was a beautifully decorated and well designed bathroom with granite, marble and chrome everywhere, the power shower was fantastic and the complimentary toiletries were of a good size and the same quality as used in the hotel spa. The mini bar was well stocked, don't take anything out for more than 5 seconds as it will be automatically charged to your room! The tea and coffee facilities were also well stocked with a variety of tea, there was a trouser press, iron and ironing board and a nice sized safe.
The position of our room was great, with a lift right next to it,not as loud as mentioned in another review, which led directly to the spa and pool, so no awkward walking through reception in our robes and slippers. The pool was great, a very good size, never feeling overcrowded, clean and well lit. We made good use of the steam room, the jacuzzi and the sauna ( the door opens outwards, everyone was pushing it open and squeezing through the tiny gap created, actually quite amusing to watch.) Sadly we never got to use the spa, whose treatments looked and sounded amazing, or the very well appointed gym, we shall be saving this for our next visit!
Our room service evening meal was far better than expected, the food being delicious and nice generous portions. ( a tip, just by St.Pauls there is an M&S and a Sainburys, buy your booze in there to have with your meal.)
The buffet continental breakfast was very good quality, every cereal imaginable, dried fruits, fresh fruits, yogurts, cheeses, cold meat selection, smoked salmon, toast, spreads, pastries, croissants, fresh fruit juices and tea and coffee...a great way to fuel up before hitting the town, with this hotels excellent location everything is on your doorstep,we spent the morning exploring the South Bank, Tate Modern, Globe Theatre, etc, etc, etc.
Overall, this is a great hotel, not super cheap, but the value for money is exceptional.
The staff were very friendly, polite and extremely attentive.
The room clean, comfortable, quiet and relaxing.
The food was fantastic, must usethe restaurants next time!
The pool and spa were great, a well needed treat after a day of exploring our beautiful, diverse capital city.
WE CANNOT RECCOMEND THIS HOTEL HIGHLY ENOUGH!
714, top floor, great views quiet and next to a lift to the spa and pool.
