The Days Inn Hyde Park is a jewel of a hotel - one of many smaller, boutique hotels alongside each other in a row of converted townhomes along Suffolk Gardens - within easy walking distance of Paddington Station. Don't be put off by the fact that it's a Days Inn. This hotel is worlds away from what many Days Inns in the USA are like.
Check-in was handled efficiently by a very pleasant, helpful reception clerk who went out of his way to make sure that I knew I could call on reception staff at any time. My room - with 2 beds - was small and cozy, but not too small. Nicely furnished - single and double bed, ample workspace, small fridge, tea/coffee service, trouser press. The only issue - quite minor - is that the two beds take up much of the room space. Still, the room doesn't feel cramped, and it was very clean and in excellent repair.
Upon entering the room, there was a small foyer-type area with the closet. To the right was the bathroom; straight ahead was another door that led into the room itself ... an interesting layout, but it kept the loo and bedroom separate and, in the cold weather, allowed the room heat to focus on keeping the bedroom warm. The heat is centrally controlled, and the radiator has a valve that can be adjusted to control the temperature - when the heat is on. During the day, the room got a bit chilly, but when I mentioned this to reception, they immediately turned on the central heat to the room. In the evening, the room was warm and cozy.
There's an in-hotel bar open 24 hours, although I did not use it.
The neighborhood is safe and quiet. Paddington Station, with easy connections to Heathrow Airport and to the rest of London via the Tube and buses, is a 5 minute walk away. There are a number of restaurants nearby, including fast food and sit-down.
I was able to snag an excellent rate at the hotel brand website. AARP discounts are available and bookable via the web.
Overall - I was totally pleased by this hotel - particularly the value for price paid (GBP 54.00/night). I've stayed at the nearby Best Western Delmere hotel (one of the other hotels in the townhome row) and recommend it as well, but between the two hotels, this one wins out on overall value.
It's unfortunate that they branded themselves as a Days Inn, as the brand does not do justice to the quality and value of this hotel.
I'll be back.
