“Cheap and well connected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2011

I've spent with my wife 4 nights in this hotel. Our plan was to find a cheap solution in the London center near tube stations and restaurants.

This hotel fits our needs!

Pro: 3 tube stations at less than 15 minutes. Many cheap or interesting restaurant in the area. Hotel staff ready to provide any kind of answer or help.

Con: Old camera, no lift, bathroom with OLD shower. Poor breakfast

“Good budget hotel in neighborhood close to the tube with fine service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2011

Okay, so we aren't looking for the Ritz and we didn't stumble on this like a gold mine. But it has:
A helpful desk assistant
A fine breakfast (especially for kids): fruit, tea and coffee, cold cereal, toast etc.
A good locale in a quiet neighborhood and only a few blocks from a major road with restaurants (Subway, pizza, fast food, a grocery, chinese etc.) and a major tube station
Room had a heater/air con. and we used the heater at night, beds were comfortable, bathroom wasn't unsightly--room was spare but fine for our needs.
Overall, this was good for London prices and we will be using this hotel again should we need to bring the kids to the city

“Budget Hotel - Worth the Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2010

My husband and I stayed in a double en-suite room during our week long stay. Some people like to stay at fancy hotels and take advantage of their gym, pool, spa, restaurants, etc., but that's not us...we aren't travelling thousands of miles to another country to do all that when we can do it at home in our own city. After a long day of touring/sightseeing, all we want to do is come back to a nice, clean and comfortable room...that's what we got with this hotel. The hotel was located in a great location. We were a 10-minute walk (I walk slow, by the way) from the Bayswater and Queensway tube stops and getting to Bayswater Road for the buses was even closer. There were tons of restaurants, pharmacies and small grocery stores right by the tube stops. We were a 10minute walk to the heart of Notting Hill. We felt very safe walking around the neighborhood, regardless of day or night. The rooms were old, but clean for the most part. I guess if I had anything to complain about, it'd be about some of the hairs I found in the bathroom that I know weren't from my husband or I and the dust behind our bed. The first couple of days we were there, the heat was REALLY turned up in our room...to the point where I had a hard time sleeping. The windows didn't open and there was no knob for the radiator behind our bed (that's how we found the dust) so we couldn't adjust the temperature. We voiced our concern to the hotel staff and they had their maintenance man come in and adjust the heat to a much more comfortable temperature. The staff was pleasant and immediately got us hooked up with the free wi-fi once we arrived. The breakfast included with our stay was very basic...cereal, yogurt, toast, juice/milk/tea/coffee. But then again, it's not like the hotel advertised a grand/gourmet breakfast buffet so we completely expected the basic breakfast we were served. All in all, we were very happy with our stay, it was well worth our money and we would stay here again. I read some of the comments before booking this hotel and I guess what a lot of people fail to realize is, this is a budget hotel, not a Ritz Carlton. Lodging in London is not cheap...if you're looking for a good place to stay that's reasonably priced, then this will definitely do the job! If you're looking for a hotel with all the bells and whistles, then you're going to pay for that...you get what you pay for, simple as that.

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2010

I'm not one for fancy hotel rooms and travel to London every now and then for Gigs and days out, usually a hotel is just a place to sleep overnight so as not to travel back in the evening after an exhausting day. As long as it's clean and comfortable I'm happy.

Unfortunately I think we were in the worst room in the whole place, Room 20, basically the basement room with a metal shower cubicle in the the corner. The room smelt of damp possibly due to it being nigh on impossible to operate the shower without getting the carpet wet, the shower head was attached with a piece of string which made it bounce around. The sash window had no locking mechanism so was insecure the whole time (although not sure access can be gained to this area from the street). The room also appeared to be situated beyond the cleaners utility cupboard as I had to walk past a vacuum and stacked laundry items.

I'm not sure if the other rooms are any better, they may well fulfil the cheap and clean criteria but if you get offered the basement room refuse. I was only staying one night and leaving early the next morning so accepted my bad luck a getting the worst room.

At no point during booking this room was it intimated that this room was below standards I'd expect of even the worst travelodge, when you book an en-suite double room you expect that and not a room with a metal cubicle in the middle. I appreciate the price was cheap but not at all value for money given the condition of the room.

On the positive side the staff appeared friendly and Breakfast was fine and served efficiently.

“Good value but nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2010

This hotel was based in a really good area. the nearest tube station was Bayswater and this was only a 5 min walk from the hotel. I travelled from kingscross and it only took about 30 mins in total to go from door to door.
The room was basic, clean with plenty of storage. The double bed was slightly uncomfortable and the heat was unbearable until we turned the radioator down!
Ensuite was compact with the shower having very little room to manouver.
Breakfast consisted of cereal, toast, yoghurt, tea or coffee.
The stairs to the breakfast basement were awkward as they had an old stairlift running down them as well.
All in all a good place to stay with friendly staff and quite central.
