“Good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I don't normally have much time for London hotels - noisy; overpriced; tiny rooms; uninterested reception staff who cannot speak English. This hotel was none of those things, a pleasant surprise. The rooms are new and clean and of a decent size (for London).

We ate in the top-floor restaurant. We asked for a window table and were glad that we did, great views. Food was pretty good.

The hotel does not have "character" as such - but if you want a good comfortable base for a night or two then it is recommended.

No on-site parking at the hotel (not uncommon for London), but there is a flat open air car park virtually opposite (next to the petrol station/convenience store), and a multistorey not far away.

My one complaint is that if you book on the website it shows the VAT exclusive price - I did not realise until I had completed the booking. Very naughty of them!

Room Tip: We asked for a quiet room away from the road and that is what they gave us.

“Decent hotel”

This is actually a well positioned hotel for exploring London, (especially for a weekend tourist visit), in an area that's a bit more interesting then staying more centrally or in the West End. Most areas of central London can be reached in 20-30 mins.

The hotel itself is clean and comfortable without having a huge amount of character. Food is pricey so I've never eaten there but there is loads of choice in the locale so not an issue.

Would recommend this hotel for a weekend visit.

“Priority Rewards – Not at the Crowne Plaza Shoreditch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I stay weekly at the CP in Shoreditch due to work commitments and overall I’m impressed with the hotel itself. The rooms are of good size and standard and the bar and restaurant are welcoming.

What is very frustrating is the level of service offered to Priority Club Members! This by far has the most disappointing rewards out of any Inter Continental Group Hotel I have stayed in (and I stay in them very, very regularly for work in different cities around the UK).

Firstly, to provide background. I stay at the Crowne Plaza Birmingham and get an upgrade to a club room with all the benefits of the business lounge offering complimentary drinks and canapés. I get the same again in Glasgow and when staying in the Holiday Inn at Edinburgh, I get an upgraded room with a bottle of wine left for me. All other hotels I stay at within other cities come with very similar benefits.

Then it comes to the Crowne Plaza in Shoreditch. Up to the end of last year, Platinum members received a free drink voucher for the bar, which although wasn’t on a par with other branded hotels, it was at least a show of appreciated for picking that hotel out of the many others within London. However since the new year, they have withdrawn the drinks voucher and replaced it with… “nothing”. Priority Club members have always received a very small gift in our rooms, however those of late have become smaller and smaller to the point where the last three weeks I have received either a very small tin of chocolates or three small bottles of olive oil (very odd in itself).

Since staying at the hotel for over a year, I’ve been provided with an update to a Club Room once (in the 50 odd nights I have stayed there), however they were keen to explain that this upgrade would not give me the facility to use any of the Club Room facilities such as the club room. So really, a pointless exercise.

So – the point of this review! Overall, a good hotel, however they do really need to review their policy on Priority Club membership and how they “reward”. I can stay at many, many other hotels in London however choose to show loyalty to this hotel, however it would appear they do not reward that loyalty! Maybe I’m the fool here!!

“Good experience but nothing out of the ordinary”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

I have stayed in the Crown Plaza for 2 nights in December 2011 due to a business meeting in the area. I enjoyed staying at the Crowne Plaza but cannot say that there is anything special about the Hotel at all. Sevice is ok, breakfast was ok, bar is ok. Prices are a little on the steep side for a 4 Star Hotel.
The Rooms are small but clean, the decor needs a little updating but the rooms have everything one would need (hairdryer, minibar, tea & coffee making facility, internet, TV etc). A very standard 4 Star Hotel, nothing stands out but nothing frustrating either.
Breakfast variety could be a bit better.
The Shoreditch area is beautiful, a lot to see in walking distance of the Hotel.
I have enjoyed the stay but would book a different Hotel just to experience something else, next time I will stay in the area.

Room Tip: If you want a view - ask for it. I stared into the backyard. If you want it quiet (street noise) as...

“Comfortable but quite expensive.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

First Impressions: Not too far by taxi from Kings Cross Station. Large hotel, very welcome sight. Ground floor very spacious and modern with plasma TV and seating area. We did receive a frosty welcome from the desk clerk but everything else was fine.
Room: Our room was on the second floor and it was so easy to get to in the lifts as every room was well signed unlike some hotels. The view wasn't that great, but to be honest we didn't ask for a room with a view so it didn't matter that we were looking onto opposite hotel rooms. The room was clean and comfortable and there was lots of information available to tell us everything we needed to know. The only addition that would be quite helpful would be a map of the underground as the station was very close to the hotel.
Facilities:The 7th floor restaurant had an average view but still enjoyable, Saint Paul's and the Gherkin could be seen and added interest to the view. The Saint's Bar on the ground floor has a cosy atmosphere and comfortable seats, the food was tasty and well cooked, and there was quite a range of food considering it wasn't the main place to eat. The staff were so helpful and friendly, especially the Bar Manager (an Irish man) and Bar Staff Sagar. The hotel also has a swimming pool but we did not use this facility.
Cost: Rooms are reasonably priced, but the cost of food in the main restaurant is quite pricey so it's a good idea to eat out on an evening.

Room Tip: If you want a room with a view, ask when booking. Rooms are very quiet at the back of the hotel.
