“loved it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2012

I had searched many London hotels and found that many of them wanted us to book 2 rooms for my husband, 2 small children and I. Then my husband remembered he had stayed at Baden-Powell house many years ago on a scouting trip to London. He even remembered that they offered a discount because he is now an Eagle Scout. I called and found them to have the best rate for my family of 4. We booked a private room for our family that had beds for my husband and I (which we pushed together) and a bunkbed for my kids (which they LOVED). It was a simple room that had a tv and best of all (considering it was a hostel) it had a private bathroom. The only reason I didn't give this an "Excellent" rating was because of the size of the bathroom. It was extremely small but at least we did not have to share a bathroom with strangers. The staff was excellent and the breakfast each morning was great too! I also noticed you could even order a sack lunch for the day if you needed to. It was also a great location not too far from the tube. I would absolutely recommend Baden-Powell House to any families and will absolutely stay here again next time we return to London!

“Get what you pay for!”

I stayed here with a group of young people for work and we really only used it as a base which it is ideal for. Just 5 mins from Gloucester Road tube station and over the road from the Natural History Museum it's great for exploring London while not paying a fortune for accommodation.
Bathroom is absolutely tiny and some colleagues said they felt seasick inside but it was clean and the room itself was a farily good size.

It's a busy hostel and quiet time is supposed to be from 10pm but this doesn't really seem to be enforced and when one of our party was sick all over his bedding (he was 12 and DEFINTELY not suffering the effects of alcohol as suggested by the night receptionist), the reception had no access to cleaning materials - they gave us 4 toilet rolls and 2 carrier bags.....

However, when one of our party got their Kindle mixed up in the laundry, staff were really helpful retrieving it, going through the dirty sheets to locate it!!

The All You Can Eat Breakfast at £4.50 is a bit misleading - it's a German breakfast - rolls, cold meats and cereals mainly - no full English here so you might want to give it a miss if that's your thing. All in all, it's a good base for exploring but just remember its a hostel not a hotel

“Rubbish hostal!!”

I stayed overnight at BPH with a group of friends for 1 night. When we first arrived it all looked ok, but worse was to come. When were shown to our room my first reaction was " this is really spacious". But the bathroom was so small there was barely even any leg room.
There was mouldy chewing gum on one of the beds, the sheets were all stained, there was mould all on the celing, there was no sanitry bins in the bathroom, the shower still had hair in from the last visitors in the room, and the heating was up WAY to high!!! In the downstairs toilets all the sanitry bins were full up!!! The staff were rude, and they spoke very poor english!!! Me and one of my friends got shouted at by one of the staff for filling up our water bottles at about 9:00pm!!!!
Barely got any sleep because the beds were so hard!!! Was woken up at about 2am by little children running up and down the corridor screaming!!!! The food wasnt great ither!!! Over all NOT a very good hostal!!! VERY UNCLEAN!!!!

“Very good value and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Very good value for money, clean tidy rooms, nice food, excellent location next to the Natural History museum and only took 15 minutes to walk to the Mandarin Oriental hotel, friendly staff, however difficult for parking and slightly noisy.
