“Travelodge no longer a "Safe bet"”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

Gave this 2 stars only because I'm sure I've stayed in worse places. Fortunately we did not have the rail noises others have commented on, but.....

a) room was not made up after first night and had to get towels after it having been suggested that maybe it wa sour fault for having the do not disturn sign outside the room. Hmmmm I'm sure i would have remembered that!
b) the bathroom extractor was continually running, and seemed to be a system that vented to a (large) central extraction fan. Being near the top of the building, the fan pulls more severely tahn at lower levels,; as a result you could really hear it all the time, esp after your ears have "tuned in" to it at 2am..... result..... no sleep
c) soundinsulation between rooms virtually non existent, and creaking floorsd means that all footsteps can be heard. No silent doorclosers so all doors slam shut. I'd hate to be tehre Friday and Saturday nights when the bar is open until around 4am....
d)..... hardly the good night's sleep in the cdity they promise!
e) double glazing draughty and definitely not soundproof (by a long shot)
f) breakfast just about adequate but breakfast room too small resultimng in staff and guests falling over each other, not helped by bad layout
g) picture frame in room literally falling apart! No pride at all.

Travelodge used to be a safe bet, you knew what to expect at the budget end. That ethos seems to have disappeared.

“Clean and Tidy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

we stayed here for two nights in a family room. Initially we had to ask for more bedding and towels as there was only enough for 3 people (4 of us staying). This was supplied and brought to our room. Although our room was quite small and basically furnished, it was clean and tidy enough

the hotel is closely located to the train and tube station, however as a result of this the room we had was extremely noisy. It actually felt as though the window had been left open. Coupled with the soft bed and sirens going all night we did not get a great deal of sleep.

The room was serviced and however the pressure in the shower was wholly inadequate and made getting a shower quite difficult.

The breakfast was fine, everything there that you would expect. Basicall for this hotel, we got what we paid for.

“worst 'budget' hotel”

Stayed here in Oct. 2011 for 2 nights and will never return again. Good for location, but that's it. Rooms tatty, beds uncomfortable and very noisy at night (with the window closed). I even woke up in the middle of the night with buzzing in my ear which wouldn't stop. I ended up putting water in my ear to stop it and when I returned home the next day cleaned my ear with a cotton bud. There was a small flea type thing there!! Premier Inns are far superior for round about the same price.

“dirty!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Stayed for 2 nights. thank goodness we paid the sale rate rather than full price. couldnt fault the handy location but the hotel room needed a good refurbishment. I tried not to look too closely but couldnt avoid the stains on the walls, plaster over the smoke alarm, broken side light, dirty surfaces which even included a cigarette from the previous resident (despite being a non smoking room), unhoovered carpet, hairs in the bathroom. The bed was as soft as a waterbed it was that worn out. We had to share a towel between two as they just provided one for our stay. The corridor stunk of cigarette smoke too-always in the morning. Breakfast wasnt great-the crossiants could have been used in the recent riots as ammo they were that hard. None of the food was covered and left out for hours. A better bet would be starbucks or macdonalds around the corner. Finally the staff were that miserable it was comical. If you fancy a 'dirty weekend' at travelodge-stay here-and bring your rubber gloves!!
