This truly was a no frills hotel, but it met my family's needs. I traveled with my wife and 2 sons, ages 1 and 3. We stayed in one of the family-sized rooms with beds for 3 and a crib (provided by the hotel for free). The mattresses were rather cheap and uncomfortable. The bedspread was old, worn, and looked dirty. The room was reasonably clean and it had its own sink. The free WiFi Internet and new HD TV were a nice touch. For an extra 15 pounds per night, we could have had a private bathroom, but we were on the cheap for this trip so we opted for the standard room and used the public bathrooms. The shower rooms were needing renovation and were not too clean. One of the shower rooms did not even have a shower curtain so the entire bathroom was soaked by the previous user. We were on the main level, and could hear the people above us every time they walked around. The floor boards were obviously flimsy and creaked anytime anyone moved. One of the hotel staff members told me that there were plans to replace the hotel floor boards in the near future, which would be a significant improvement.
What is best about this hotel is its location (walking distance from the King's Cross train and Underground stations) and its value. King's Cross Underground station is one of the few Tube stations in London zone 1 that is equipped with elevators/lifts, which was really handy as we had both kids in a double stroller during our visit. We booked only a few days in advance and were able to get a family room for 70 British pounds per night. The free full English breakfast was adequate, but nothing to be excited about.
