“A Wonderful Weekend Break.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Arrived to be greeted by 2 staff on reception very efficient and helpful. Lovely bedroom overlooking the front of the Hotel Gardens with the' Cutty Sark' in view warm clean and cosy. Welcoming package and letter from Alan Whitley general Manager [ nice touch ]. Visited the Indoor Greenwich Markets and Naval Museums walked along the Thames path towards O2, arrived back at the Hotel cold, receptionist suggested we have a coffee in the Lounge we were to find out this was complimentary to guests also pastries enjoyed the comfortable surroundings of this room.In the evening we booked the Restaurant service and food very good enjoyed a bottle of wine recommended by the Manager, we were not rushed and the whole meal was excellent. Breakfast very good much busy then the evening but still just as efficient tea and coffee arrived without any fuss. Enjoyed this wonderful weekend will return again a big thank you. Lynn and friends.

“Excellent staff here!”

We cannot understand comments about rude staff at this hotel. My wife and I use Devonport House for our annual visit to London for The Boat Show and /or Theatre show/ museums atc. and have never experienced anything but helpful and courteous treatment from all staff from the top down. Nothing has been too much trouble and the service has been super. The Boat Show week-end is one of the busiest periods of the year here due to it's proximity to the show site and so pressure does come on the breakfast operation as most residents want to get off early, but the breakfast manager and staff cope superbly, with admirable good humour, and we put this hotel's breakfast on a par with that at The Hilton London Bridge, where we had to stay once due to Devonport House already being booked up.
The Hotel is superbly sited for visits to London and it's site in historic Greenwich adds an extra dimension to your visit. It's lovely to return to in the evening and see the lights of London and Canary Wharf across the river and get that slight relief from leaving the hustle and bustle for the night. The rooms are fine for a week-end stay and size wise on a par with most in London. Everything has been in order in our rooms over the course of 4 visits. We tend to use the vast choice of local restaurants and public houses rather than the hotel for evening meals or drinks if we have not eaten 'up town' so can't comment on afternoon drinking provision .... apart from advising the reviewer who struggled to find someone to serve them to get a life and get out there and do something better with there time!

Room Tip: Front of hotel best for views.

“Great base for London”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We stayed here for two nights for a family trip to London and had two rooms.

On arriving it was easy to find and there is parking available for hotel guests.
We arrived at reception to check in. The receptionist was quite rude and snappy. We were given our keys to our rooms.

Our room overlooked Canary Wharf which was beautiful at night when it was all lit up it also overlooked the grounds to the front of the property. The other room overlooked the gravestones and the maritime museum.

Both rooms were ok, a bit on the small side but hey thats what you get in London! but still big enough for what we needed. They were both clean and comfortable.

The hotel was mainly used as a base as during the day we were out visiting places and didnt get back until late evening but it is very close to the underground station etc so getting around is quite easy.

They have a coffee point available and internet access the area was usually clean( I just wish people would use the bins provided it really is'nt that difficult) which is no fault of the hotel.

We had a great nights sleep and went down to breakfast. Breakfast was good, plenty available and everything was piping hot and pots of tea was served on arrival.

On the second day again we went out during the day but we decided to eat at the hotel. When my Husband enquired about how much dinner was at the hotel, reception could not tell us, so we asked in the restaurant and two members again did not know how much it cost. We decided after that to eat out.

Breakfast on the second day was'nt as good but the restaurant was alot busier, some poor couple were given a table and went to get breakfast ( as it's buffet style) and when they got back their table was allocated to someone else and being no other tables available ended up having to stand up to eat breakfast until one became availabe!. NOT GOOD.

The stay here was ok, we will most probably return as it is a good base for London at a good price and some of the rooms have good views.

Room Tip: rooms overlooking Canary wharf are the best

“Not what I would have expected form a hotel in Olympic year”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Once checked in - went to bar for a drink - no bar staff on duty, this was late afternoon.
Room ensuite especially around bath could have done with a deep clean and the water supply both hot & cold very intermittent - and no existent on occasions. Plates for breakfast stone cold along with some of the 'hot food'. Asked for camomile tea - never arrived. Staff obviously didn't understand.
Would have been better if more staff on duty at checkout time.

Room Tip: Don't go

stayed here for the first time January 2012 for 2 nights on a promotional code, parking excellent and easy to find location, very friendly receptionists, room overlooking the University campus and the city which was a decent size, bathroom clean. A safe in the room would have been helpful.
