“Value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Not bad for the money. Very difficult to sleep with lift noise going all night. If I used it again I would certainly request a room as far from the lift as possible. Breakfast was a disappointment - fruit juice turned out to be squash and the service was pleasant without being cheery. No top-ups on tea, coffee or toast offered. Bonus was proximity to Gloucester Rd tube and hotel set in lovely, quiet street.

“Great Location and Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I stayed here in a twin room with my mum for one night. This was in a great location not far from Gloucester Road tube station (a 5 min walk maximum) and it felt a safe place to be.

The hotel is converted old house and some of the original features remain which make it a beautiful building. We stayed in an attic room which was basic but fine for one evening. We opted for a room with a bath and despite the low ceiling (owing to it being in the eaves of the building) was a good bathroom with a lovely deep bath.

Breakfast was brilliant, we had a full english, then were offered a range of fruits, bread and pastries. It was basic food but lots of it and was perfect for setting us up for a day's shopping!!

We went through a late deals website and got the room for about £75, which considering a chain hotel round the corners best offer was about £125, and that it was only 10 days before christmas was an excellent bargain. They offered us the chance to keep our bags for the day for free, but we decided to leave them at Kings Cross instead as it meant less travel, but another excellent service on offer.

They provided towels, which were only small but met need, take your own if you want bigger and your own toiletries.

Would definately visit again!!!

“Excellent value, location and staff”

This hotel was in an excellent location, and we had a fantastic overnight stay here. On arrival we were greeted at the check in and offered toiletries if required and told we can help ourselves to hot drinks and juice from dining room and a wide variety of fruit was also available. The room was clean and of a style you would expect for the price, we had an ensuite with a double and 2 singles. In the morning we had breakfast which definately provided enough food to start the day. There was plenty on offer and on checking out we were able to leave our luggage at the hotel until we were ready to travel home. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. It is a great place to crash for the night on a budget and we will definately be back.

“Like stepping back in time!”

Before we stayed here, I read many other reviews, so was unsure what to expect.
As a group of ladies, we booked a family room at a brilliant rate (£100 for 5 of us).
The location is very central and building beautiful.
Upon arrival the check in was easy and very courteous. Soap and shower gel were offered and breakfast was explained.
The beds and towels were clean and pressed. The bathroom was clean and fresh.
The room was warm.
Yes, the decor is dated and things are a little tired, but for the price it was excellent. There were several chairs, a wardrobe, cupboard and shelves for our belongings.

The breakfast was like staying with a family. Food was pressed on us in a kind way and nothing was too much trouble. There was a lot of fruit! We also noticed that grapefruit and melon was cut and left out several hours before serving, but it was easy to avoid!
The Father was there too and he was charming.

This hotel offers excellent value for money and a real cultural experiance. It is not the most glamerous experience you will ever have, but I will definihtely be staying again.

“insane”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

this is the worst place I've ever seen in my travel around the world. Beijing 35 years ago was luxury, compared to this hotel. Dirty, smelly, uncomfortable, badly or not heated at all, drafty windows.the room is illuminated the whole night from the light outside in the corridor. Not to speak about the noise from the neighbours, their TV (lucky if it works), the slamming of doors on the upper and lower floors. No toilet paper (this must be collected on a table close to the hotel reception), no soap, old and worn-out beds, lousy pillows, no chairs to put your clothes, no space to turn around. A gloomy-faced Director. Fortunately his staff is trying to make up for all this by being friendly, but the hotel is still not up to any standard and should just be closed up and removed from the lists.
A real pity, as the area is very stylish, beautiful streets and parks around and the tube close by.

Room Tip: impossible in this hotel
