“Very clean, nice staff, small room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

The location is great, about an 8 min walk from Victoria station. Easy walk to buckingham palace and a bit further to London eye, big Ben and Westminster abbey. There are no lifts but the staff will bring up your luggage. We arrived before check in and they stored our bags then brought them to the room when it was ready. If you have trouble with stairs make sure they dont give you a room on the top floor, we counted 83 steps. Room is tiny but newly renovated. Shower and bathroom very tight but clean. Extra towels and blankets easily attained. Make sure to opt for the non- express connects to and from the airport as they are much less expensive and avoid cabs which are very expensive. And def get a day pass for the underground, very worth it!

Room Tip: If you aren't fit make sure you don't get a room on the top floor.

Hi there,

Thank you so much for this lovely review. Yes, we do not have a lift but we always have a porter ready to carry our guests' luggage. Also, our hotel is located in the heart of London, so it is definitely conveniently located to most of the local attractions. Thank you again for writing this review and we do hope that you stay with us again in the future.

Kind Regards,

The Georgian House

“Handy London location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Booked the hotel last minute, for a re-arranged business trip to London. It was clean, rooms were comfortable, staff were very helpful. The breakfast was served in the basement - not bad, again staff were excellent.

Not the sort of hotel I would choose for a romantic weekend but practical if you want to keep your costs down for business visits

“Cheap and Not so Cheerful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

This hotel is located about ten minutes walk from Victoria Train Station and a bit closer to the Coach Station in an area of London populated with similar hotels. St George's Drive is not a main thoroughfare so traffic noise was not a problem although I was staying in a front room. The single room I had was possibly the smallest hotel room i have ever stayed in, about twice the width of the single bed with a tall wardrobe on the other side so manoeuvring a large suitcase within the room would be problematic. The shower room was similarly neat and the wash basin overlapped the toilet so it was impossible to use it by sitting straight on. The room was reasonably clean although the place is showing its age. Large heaps of what I assumed were laundry bags were stacked on the landings between each flight of stairs and the vacuum cleaners were also stored on landings. Not only was my room small but the walls and floors are paper thin so every noise made in the adjacent rooms, the ones above and the corridors was clearly audible including some I would rather not have heard. The room had tea and coffee laid on with a kettle. There was a hairdryer provided. The small safe was located on top of the wardrobe at a height of over six feet so most people using it would need to do what I did and stand on a stool to use it. Towels were clean but far from new; shower gel and shampoo were provided but no soap. There was a safety chain on the door which was broken. The hotel provides only breakfast and strictly to the times set out in their guide. There are numerous restaurants and bars within a short walk in nearby Pimlico. I had the continental breakfast and it was acceptable so I cannot comment on the english breakfast. I will not be staying here again.

Hi there,

Thank you for taking your time to write this review. We are sorry that you do not consider coming back to our hotel. Also, we are currently planning expansions on some rooms so that we can store items such as our laundry bags and vacuum cleaner so this will hopefully not be a problem in the future. Also, as this is a bed and breakfast guest accommodation, we only serve breakfast. Thank you anyways for writing this review as it has helped us in making our hotel better. We still do hope that you consider staying with us again in the future.

Kind Regards,

The Georgian House

“Friendly staff, but lacks standards”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

people found this review helpful

We stayed at the Georgian House Hotel for 3 nights towards the tail end of our trip to Britain to stay in a different part of London, and were disappointed to find that our "standard" room at the Georgian House Hotel was more of a bedsit in the basement rather than a standard room. Having enjoyed our stays elsewhere in London and other parts of the UK, the sudden drop in value for approximately the same price we had been paying, including exclusion of the "included" breakfast, was unexpected.

To their credit, upon expressing our disappointment, the friendly staff did work with us to give us standard rooms for 2 of the 3 nights as well as the breakfast at no extra charge, albeit these changes required us to move rooms every night of our stay (as others have pointed out, they do have a porter to move your luggage, which is convenient). All in all, having to negotiate these items with hotel staff in addition to packing every morning to move within the same hotel was certainly not what I had expected when I booked this accommodation.

Upon leaving, we did speak to the manager of the Georgian House to express our disappointment, who told us since they were fully booked at the time, and since we did not put in a special request for a standard room when we booked our "standard" room, there was nothing they could do - although remarkably we were offered a discount on our next stay (which we will not be taking advantage of, as there are other perfectly suitable accommodations with better value and without this type of trouble elsewhere in London).

My recommendation to hotel management is to provide more accurate description of rooms with rates as well as the accommodations generally in order to establish standards of what guests should expect, and do a better job of meeting those standards upon guest arrival rather than having the guest negotiate these items after the fact.

Room Tip: My recommendation if you do decide to book at the Georgian House is to follow the hotel manager'...

Hi there,

Thank you for taking your time to write this review as every feedback is important to us in improving the hotel. Sorry to hear that you were not happy with your room and that it did not meet your expectations. Since this used to be a family home that was turned into a hotel, some rooms can be smaller or larger even if they are the same room type. Yes, we definitely encourage our customers to make enquiries before booking so that we can give the customer the accommodation that they deserve. Thank you again for writing this review.
