“Rick Steves is WRONG The "Family Room" is disgusting”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

FYI for any fans of Rick Steves . . . DO NOT book the "family room" at the Jubilee Hotel under any circumstance - well maybe it's a step up from sleeping on the steps of one of the nearby churches, but other than that there is just about anything better. I am not a germaphobe by any means, but this hotel was gross. The bathroom was moldy and filthy - reminded me more of Mexico than London. I didn't even brush my teeth in there - used a glass and bottled water instead! Stayed out as late as possible and left first thing in the morning. Found a cuter, cleaner place in a better location just a few streets west in Belgravia - no more expensive either. What a dump!

Also the man on the phone hardly spoke English and couldn't give us walking directions from Victoria Station so we wandered quite a while in the cold looking for the place. Not run by locals and they weren't friendly at all. Breakfast was minimal - cold cereal, tea and toast. And they do want you to leave your key everytime you leave. Just a terrible experience.

“Horrible stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

We booked a double room with shared bathroom. The three rooms that share a bathroom are in the basement of the renovated townhouse. The room we were in had yellow walls that were covered in foot scuff, dirt and ?food particles, also there was a kettle provided for tea, but I don't know what the heck was growing in there. There were two beds, a double and a single, neither of which had sheets large enough to fit the bed. My husband and I attempted to sleep on the double bed, but the matress was so dis-shaped I felt like I was upside-down and my husband could only be tilted into the center of the mattress, thus I spent my night in the single bed. There is a window with a few to nowhere, well technically its a wall, and no curtains either, and wonderful at night when the light that is lighing the sign for the hotel shines right into the room too! :(The bathroom can only be descirbed as deplorable. There was mold (green and black) growning on almost every surface except the sink and the toilet. The staff were friendly enough. The street noise is loud. The location is great as it is a half-hour walk to Westminster abbey and a 5 min walk from Victoria station. We did not have breakfast at this place as I was quite concerned re: hygiene due to the state of the place. I would not stay here again and would not reccomend it either unless some serious renovations go into the place

Room Tip: Try a room with an en-suite? Might be better - do not stay in the shared BR accomodations.

“HORRIBLE HOTEL!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

my husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and i couldn't wait to get out of there!! the staff was not very nice...we had to leave our hotel key at the front desk everytime we left the hotel (which i'm not sure if this is common in Europe hotels, but i didn't like this idea cuz anyone could go into our room)...there was no elevator and our room was on the 3rd floor, and the room is extremely tiny!!!! the bed was very uncomfortable and for some reason i kept getting itchy from the sheets every night...the pillows had to be old and worn down because i felt like i wasn't even sleeping on a nice fluffy pillow, and the bathroom...that had to be the worst!!!! so tiny and the shower had this nasty musty odor...i think it was coming from the old shower curtain that probably hadn't been changed since who knows when!! the room had no iron so i had to borrow it from downstairs, and the guy wouldn't even bring up the ironing board for me...so i had to carry the heavy thing up 3 flights of stairs!! the lady serving us breakfast didn't even smile, say hello, and was just unpleasant. the only good thing about this place is the location...close to the Victoria station and near restaurants...however, there were other parts of London that seemed a lot more lively...this location seemed a little more dead. if i ever come back to London, i will NOT be staying at this hotel...and you shouldn't either!!

“More like 3.5/5”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

We checked in here as an emergency replacement from our hated hostel. Our first impressions: very nice neighborhood and located about 5 minutes away from Victoria station, extremely friendly and helpful staff, and a clean lobby.

Our room was on the ground floor and cost 65 pounds/nt. It was an extremely small room with a window that looks out towards...nothing, a somewhat uncomfortable bed, a tv, a sink that didn't drain properly, and a kettle. Overall, above average for the price. Bathroom was right outside our room and shared with--I think--three other rooms. One shower, a toilet, and a sink (which *did* drain properly!). The bathroom was clean and there was hot water every time we showered. Breakfast was included, but we decided to eat elsewhere.

Overall, I would recommend this place, particularly in the off-season when prices drop to 50-55, I believe. The area is great: right next to the station and an easy, 15 minute walk to Buckingham Palace...and another 10 to Parliament--we walked everywhere and felt very comfortable walking back to the hotel at night. Staff was very helpful and allowed for luggage storage for a few hours after checking out.
