“Student life all over again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

If you've ever been a student and had to stay in halls of residence, you'll know exactly what this is like. Located centrally behind Tottenham Court Road near Goodge St, Warren St and Euston Square underground stations, this place is ideal for exploring central London - Oxford St, Covent Garden and the British Museumare all within easy walking distance. The room itself was twin-bedded with a wardrobe and sink and the toilets and bathrooms were shared with the other 15-20 rooms on the same wing. There's a canteen upstairs (pretty good cooked breakfast) and a common room with TV on the ground floor. For GBP44 for two, it represents great value in a prime location - but don't expect 5* luxury!

“cheap accommodation in prime location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Everything is average. For student's university accommodation across the UK, I think London Halls are generally.. well .. dirtier? I have stayed in many other university accommodation in the UK, LSE halls are by far the second worst in term of hygiene. The room looked like no one really cleaned it for a few days. It gave that kind of dusty atmosphere.

Pros : super cheap for such a prime location, near Goodge street Tube station and about 15-20mins walk to Oxford street. I can't complain much. oh They gave out free shampoo and shower jel packs and clean towels !! It was a lovely surprise.

Cons : I have never tasted such a bad English breakfast before in a university ( im not comparing to those in cafe or restaurants) The food is just plain, tasteless, straight from the can. I think Mc Donald Mcmuffin is so much better..

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the main lift and shower room.

Hi, thanks for your comments. We try very hard to keep our rooms clean and it sounds as though in your case we fell below our normal high standards, we’re also sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy the breakfast. We’ll ask the Housekeeper and Catering Manager to look into what happened here

“Excellent because of location and price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Cheap and great location is about all I can say. It's soul less however and the staff are not anything to write about. It's a place to lay your head. I have used them twice and would go again. Christmas time is a good time to go, take a nice long walk to Selfridges and shop!

“WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

I stayed at Carr-Saunders on 14/15 December 2011. This was the lesser of two evils (having my own room rather than sleeping in a dorm at another location) and my comments mirror those already made. I put up with its inadequacies because of the means to an end - cheap nights in London, however there are basic things they should do to put things right.
1. Supply decent mattresses (as others have pointed out)!
2. Ensure sufficient hot water.
3. Do something about the slamming of the doors by some ignorant guests. My next door neighbour found 22 reasons to leave and enter his room from 11pm to 3am, slamming his door in and out. I moved rooms for the second night and did sleep well.
The breakfast was far better than expected, even at 9.30 there was plenty of choice. The location was superb, so much choice for eating in the immediate vicinity. Easy stroll to the British Museum and Oxford Street.
I would have no hesitation staying again but will take others' advice and take a room away from the front - the pub opposite is noisy, even in December.

Room Tip: Don't book 501 as it's on the road side and has an appalling mattress. 319 was good.

Thanks for your feedback and it’s good to hear that you enjoyed the breakfast. We’ve taken the comments about the mattresses on board. Noise is always an issue, especially in central London, but we’re going to work on the slamming doors – thanks for letting us know about this. In general if you do have an issue with overnight noise just call security and they will look into it immediately.

“Great Value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We usually stay in Victoria during our breaks to London, this time our usual place(s) were booked up, we planned to be in town for the New Year's Eve celebrations, and stumbled across 'Carr-Saunders Hall' by "luck"...location wise, it could not have been better, our favourite bar was walking distance away (CroBar, Soho) and all our other favourite ports of call were a matter of 2 or 3 stops by underground away.

We were greeted on arrival and went through the checking in process in no time at all.

Our room was a no frills affair, double bed, sink, wardrobe, fridge, desk, chair, nothing to shout about, but it was very clean, which deserves to be noted, the toilet/shower facilities were close by, and though the toilets on the second floor did have issues with flushing first time (at the time), everything else was fine, a kitchen could be found also near the elevator, if you needed facilities to make a cuppa etc.. (personally, I would have preferred a kettle in my room, but that's life).

Ground floor, you could find a common room, housing a tv, dvd, internet terminal, stereo, vending machines (well priced too), table tennis, pool table, plenty of seating... we only used this prior to leaving the hotel for NYE, a couple of games of pool etc.. but it got a thumbs up from us.

All in all, for a low cost, no frills, brilliantly located accomodation, Carr-Saunders Hall gets a thumbs up from us...we will return!!!
