“Not as bad as I feared!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

Just back from a two day trip with my boyfriend. It was a almost a budget trip for us. When booking the trip we wanted a hotel with B&B, great location and at a good price. Having using the internet I found this hotel on travelrepublic.ie for 2 nghts b&B stay €124.... Having reading the reviews that were almost a year old stating the hotel was being refurbished I thought I was after booking a nice updated hotel!

Flew into London Luton Airport, got easybus from Luton to Baker street... This street is just a street behind where Hotel is located...£20 pounds return each 1 hour journey!!. And picks you up again at bus stop S on d same street as hotel almost literally across d road near costa coffee shop!!!!

Arriving at the hotel, had to be buzzed in, when we came to reception have to ring for receptionist to come up to you.... Reception area could do with a hover, unfinished painting and wall paper also....

Stayed on second floor, room was clean and high ceilings, Towels were folded with chocolates when we arrived...Tiny bathroom, boyfriend had to bend down to stand inside the bath as bathroom was like a box room... Unfinished pieces of work around the place and our tv ( we had to keep playing around with the arial to get full coverage!!! also what annoyed me was there was only one sheet over matress should normally be two one been a matress protector!!.Beds not the best for sleeping..Our window would not open so no fresh air circulating into the place even though I would have been nervous leaving the window open if ye seen what was outside the back yard.. Also no hair dryer!

Hotel has no bar, a nice brick room, but not a restaurant.... Breakfast consists of tea/coffee juices choices out 3 cereals up on a pool table, milks and toast and everyone works out of the same butter kinda disgusted me!! No hot english breakfast.... We didnt even bother going down the second morning for breakfasst.

No dinner or nothing served at evening time, hotel is run by one man only buckets of paint lying here and there and rolls of wall paper.... Could do with some help around the place and investment into a hover

One positive thing about the hotel is that its ten mins walk from oxford street, there is a nice bar accross the road to have a nice drink and the three tuns bar 5 mins down the street that served food til 10pm and offer an unreal roast for £8.79!...Also there is a gas station 2 mins walk from hotel that sells beer, food magazines and open for 24hours... madame toussads is also nearby!

I feared alot worse but working in hospitality myself I thought it was a joke of a place.... Didnt feel secure and brought almost all my valuables with me everywhere we went.

The big bus tours are one tours to get on if one would like to see the city, we got a free trip from london bridge to westminister on the river thames included in bus ticket... £26 pounds each buses go every 20mins so if you wish to get off at a sight you can hop back on a bus again to continue trip...lasts about 3-4 hours at your own pace... Great value and there is a guide at every stop to help you out....

Dont think I will be returning to this hotel although would like to see what stage the owner is at with the hotel in a years time!

“OK place to stay - but loud plumbing (little sleep) & poor customer service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

My husband & I stayed here, on business, for one night in Nov 2011. This is a budget hotel so we were not expecting the Ritz. The place is actively being done up and overall it was ok for what we paid. The room was clean & warm, we had complimentary toiletries & clean towels & a working tv (no hairdryer / iron - but seemingly available on request). The shower was pretty powerful & there was loads of hot water. The bathroom is not 'modern' - but it was clean & functional! There was also a tea/coffee making machine downstairs that you could use at any time and breakfast was ok - choice of three cereals, tinned fruit, yogurt, toast & juices (its self-service, so you can eat your fill). Also, it's in a very central part of london.

Our main problem was the plumbing in & around our room (206). Whenever we turned on the tap/shower or flushed a toilet etc...the plumbing was extremely loud. Also, when any other room in the vicinity turned on their taps / showers / flushed toilets - the plumbing rattled very loudly all around our room. As a result neither of us slept very well that night. When we told management about it the next day, they lacked any understanding & were very unhelpful. They told us that there was no one else on our floor so we could not have had a problem!!

I appreciate this is a family run business that's trying to make more of itself in some difficult economic times. I also approciate it can be very tiring listening to customers complaining - but maybe management needs to stay in the hotel for a night & put themselves in their customers shoes the odd time - it may help to stem the other poor reviews.

All that said - I would not give up on this hotel just yet - I feel they are trying & aside from the loud plumbing & poor customer service - it was fine. So - if you're on a budget & you are a heavy sleeper / only need a place to crash after a loud night out - then it's worth a go.

“Much better than last year!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

We stayed in a quad/ family room for four nights. The room was the same as last year, but in a much improved condition. It was renovated and had two comfortable double beds with a lot of open space. However, unfortunately the bathroom was in shambles as previously. There was a new flat screen TV installed, which had no or extremely poor reception. Despite, repeated assurances from the hotel management, no one came to fix it.

I would not write off this hotel completely, as efforts towards improvement are visible. They need to employ some additional permanent staff to manage the affairs and improve customer service. Location is superb and the rates are comparatively cheap.

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to leave a positive review.
We are glad that you enjoyed your stay.

We take on board all of our customer comments and are in the process of improving parts of the Hotel. I do apologise for the TV issue but it's something that is related to the reception of the aerial, the room that you stayed in has been receiving reception at the moment as the weather is less windy. We do try to fix issues that arise but in this case there was not much we could do and it wasn't just your TV reception.

For now there is not much we can do with the bathrooms as this will involve extensive work which is planned for later on in 2012. But until then we will look into improving it as much as we can to make sure that they are kept pleasant and clean.

“Not a hotel, really just a backpackers...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

Was once a hotel, but now just a backpackers. No room facilities other than a clean bed and towels. Be prepared to take your own tea/coffee making facilities, clothes ironing equipment, hair dryer, TV and internet access. Good location and friendly staff, but the property is woefully inadaquate to be termed a hotel. Have stayed in properties in same area for the same price with far more facilities.
Grubby entrance not inviting. A few lessons in property pride required.

Room Tip: Another hotel

Thank you for your comments.

However we would like to stress that this reviewer doesn't seem to be fully ware of the service and facilities that we offer.

Ironing equipment, hair dryers, adaptors and wi fi available upon request.
We state this on our website and also on booking sites too, so in this instance this guest just wasn't bothered to ask us.

All rooms have soap provided along with clean towels and bed sheets.
Tea/Coffee facilities aren't in the room but again in the lounge area and is free for our guests.
Again this would have been explained to the guest upon arrival as with all guests.

The entrance is fine, the reception area has been renovated and we take great pride in our hotel and building.

We advertise as 2 star budget hotel, we don't advertise ourselves as a 4 star luxury hotel, ours is ideal for those on short weekend breaks to the City. all our agents are aware of this and I'm sure if they deemed us as a backpackers hostel they would have told us so and advertised us as such, but rather they recognise us as a hotel and are happy to sell us as one.

This guest seems to have things slightly confused and incorrect with his information in regards to what we do offer in terms of facilities and what we don't
