“Really nice”

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights. We got in fron Scotland around 8am, got to the hotel at 11am but found out that check in was only at 2pm.
We decided to leave our bags and go into the city. when we got back and took our key, we realised that they had upgraded out room to an ensuite!.We were so happy and went down to thank them for the upgrade.
They had seen that we were tired from our trip and the best they could do for us was to upgrade our room! it was a sweet gesture that made all the difference.

The breakfast is filling, the hotel location is great. We were just around the corner from Kingscross and Pancras station which seemed to be a major hub for all the transport networks. The locationm made it easy for us to get around to the places that we wanted to go and when we got back in the evening, we didnt have to walk for miles to get to the hotel.
It was a delightful stay.

We were out of the hotel most of the time and all we needed was a bed and some breakfast, well, we got that and good family service.

I would recommend this hotel to any one who has already got their day plans set out for the time they are in London and all they are needing is a place to crash, take a bath and get good breakfast in the morning!

“Basic, but clean and comfortable, good location”

Stayed in a twin room with ensuite. Room was small but clean, and the beds firm but not uncomfortable. Double glazing kept traffic noise to a minimum. We were on the top floor - there are 50 steps to get up from the entry level, 65 from the dining room, so tricky for the less able bodied. Bathroom was very clean and the shower worked well, as did the TV, kettle and hairdryer provided. Proprietors were very friendly and amenable, kindly allowing us to leave our bags with them as out train home wasn't until mid-afternoon. Breakfast was 7.30-9am, good choice of cereals, continental or a lovely English breakfast which sets you up nicely. Kings Cross/St Pancras station is really close and Euston is about a 10 min walk away. HSBC and Barclays bank also very close by. Tussards is a 30 min walk away and all sorts close from there so check walking routes before fighting with the underground. Day travel pass for zones 1&2 is £6.60 - AFTER 9.30am, more expensive before, and it's manic. All in all, a comfortable stay with good food and pleasant owners!

Room Tip: Stairs!! If you dont like them/can't manage them, you must say before booking.

“Comfortable, but cramped”

We used this hotal as an overnight stop over for Eurostar for which the location is ideal. The reception was friendly and helpfull and seems to double as a living room! We were on the top floor with 3 flights of stairs which would prove difficult for anybody less mobile. The room was tiny, with a 3/4 double bed and a tiny en-suite, but it was clean and had everything we needed. It's a fairly quiet area with only the constant distant noises of sirens that continue 24/7 in London to be heard. Breakfast was excellent with very courteous waiting at the tables. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby, but we went for local pub grub which proved better than the meals we had later in Paris! We would be happy to use this hotel again in future.

Room Tip: Go for one with en-suite for only a few pounds more.

“Basic but clean and excellent value!”

Nothing fancy but then it doesn't pretend to be. Stayed here when i went to a gig in Highbury and although the room was small and right at the top of the building it was spotlessly clean and tidy and very comfortable.
Breakfast the next day was plentiful and tasty (choice of full english or continental) and the staff were cheerful and polite. What more do you want for a budget stay in London?

“accessible location, value for money”

Apollo Hotel is a B&B in my own category. The whole stretch of Argyle St is full of B&Bs. It is simple, basic, but it meets the simple needs of London tourists who will not spend so long time in their rooms when in the city. The staff are friendly and helpful. Two choices for breakfast: full English and continental. There are coffee and tea available in the rooms, as well as TV. The room sizes are indeed small, maybe a little too tight but it is not that horrible if there two average size people moving around.

Some tips: ask for room in lower floors to avoid carrying your luggage all the way up, there is no lift; avoid basement room; the en-suite room is more convenient but it costs extra £10-20/night; if you can eat heavy breakfast and want to save money, take it in Apollo.

Price is, more often than not, directly proportional to the service and quality of hotel. I think people who chose Apollo chose it for the price and location in King's Cross. If you pay Marriott or Four Seasons, you get Marriott or Four Seasons. If you pay Apollo price level, you can get relatively clean bedroom, clean bathrooms, OK breakfast, friendly service - isn't that a good deal for your £?

PS For Harry Potter lovers, try to find the 9 3/4 platform in King's Cross, it si an attraction by itself. The hop-on, hop-off is good for those with very limited time in London.

Room Tip: en-suite rooms are convenient; ask for room with big window; lower floors to avoid carrying luggage...
