“Good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

This hotel is well placed, being within walking distance of both the Underground at Pimlico and Victoria station. The rooms are basic with some en-suite but all are clean and comfortable. Breakfast is continental, with cereals, toasts, fruit juices, cold meats and cheeses among the choices. While the on-line booking system is fine I preferred to book by telephone. This hotel was recommended to me and lived up to my expectations. When staying in London I try to make a booking here first.

“Cheap, clean, minimal, great!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

A quiet cheap hotel, not perfect by any means but good value for money in a great location.
Room: good size room, with a comfortable soft double bed, space to hang clothes and a bedside table with lamp. Just what I needed so quite happy.
Bathroom: en-suite shower and toilet with small sink. Here things aren't so good. The shower was damaged, but it worked so I was able to wash. The pressure is very low at the top (room 17) so it was a pitiful shower, and the drain plug must have been blocked too. The sink cold tap couldn't be turned off without a serious twist, and in fact dripped all night.
Facilities: small kettle with tea provided, TV and bathroom soaps. Towels of course too, which were lovely and fresh.
Breakfast: unfortunately this starts at 7:30am so I missed it, having checked out earlier. I'm told it's toast and preserves.

Overall, this was fine for me. Around £20 cheaper than the other local hotels. Not wonderful, but great value for money. I would recommend it to anybody looking for somewhere simply to sleep.

“BEWARE OF THE BLADES HOTEL!!!”

I just returned from London with my wife, daughter and son-in-law. Based on the recommendation in Rick Steve's book I reserved two rooms at the Blades over four months before and had received written confirmation from the hotel - "We are pleased to confirm your reservation for two double rooms." When we showed up in the late afternoon with the written confirmation in hand we were told they had no record of our reservation and basically we were SOL. We were left wandering the street with our suitcases looking for a place to stay. Fortunately, we were able to secure accommodations just down the street at the Luna Simone. It was a much cleaner hotel with a very friendly staff. It is obvious from my review and the review of July 17, 2011 that this problem is not unique and Blades has has really gone down hill.

BEWARE UNFAIR REVIEWS: At Blades Hotel we welcome fair reviews, even when they are negative, as from reviews we hope to learn how to improve our services to our guests, as we are so busy all the time and to avoid becoming complacent. There are times though when a review is, in our opinion, blatantly unfair. We respond to advise guests that their reservation is secure SUBJECT TO A DEPOSIT BEING RECIEVED! To part quote a reply is therefore unfair, as has been done on this occasion. As for comments that our hotel has poor cleaning standards, which we strongly deny, since the complainant never actually entered our hotel, we leave the validity of this comment to the good sense of others!

“very good find , value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

We found this hotel on the internet. We could contact them directly for a booking that immediately guaranteed no extra commissions paid to 3rd parties. Don’t be fooled any site that do not give direct contact details DO TAKE commission and work up prices. The lady on the phone was very helpful in answering all our questions. Tripadvisor review was good .
For the price we paid the room was much more than we expected. spacious, quiet, and a lot of extras like coffee and tea facilities in the room. A dressing table with big mirror. Clean and attractive. You got what you paid for and more.
What a fantastic location. On the 24 bus line taking you right onto most tourist attractions very close to the hotel. Also very close to the Pimlico underground. A lovely small quiet underground station , one stop from Victoria station with connections in all directions, without the trouble to get in and out of a big station. At Victoria is two theatres and many restaurants. Going home you leave the noise behind for a good night’s rest.
We felt very safe in the area and the hotel was close to the river for a walk at the river Thames .
The staff was very friendly. The breakfast included was very generous . Staying for 9 nights they moved us to the lower level with the least stairs. Thanks again. There are no lift but the staircase is very comfortable to climb. There were always somebody available to help with directions and they have maps and info available . We felt safe as the front door was kept locked at all times.
Thanks again for a lovely stay

“Good location but small room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

Located very close to Pimlico tube stop and Victoria station which made travel very easy. Nice area of London for families and couples, pretty quite and nice. Wouldn't be ideal for people looking to stay in a good area to party in.

The room was pretty small. Bathroom was tiny and everything was kind of old. Not dirty or non working, just kind of old. Had a room on the top floor and the wifi didn't reach up to that floor. Had to go downstairs to use the internet. No reception desk to be found, didn't need to talk to reception at all during the stay but I wouldn't have been sure how to get a hold of someone from the hotel had I needed to.
