“A hotel on the mend”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Well, after all was said and done, I would say that I'm pleased with our recent stay at the Hotel Edward, though there were certainly some ups and downs. The biggest challenge that we encountered was the fact that the hotel is currently in a state of transition and upgrade. This means that the rooms were very nice and stylish, but the lift didn't work and there were workers pounding away beginning first thing in the morning on the new lobby area.

When we checked into the hotel, we were told our room was on the 5th floor, which shouldn't have been a problem...except the elevator wasn't working. So we had to lug our bags all the way up the narrow steps. Fortunately, the receptionist (who was very nice) was able to change our room to the 1st floor for the remainder of the trip to avoid a heart attack going up and down the stairs!

Wireless internet was free, but it seemed to come and go throughout the day.

Our second room (after the switch to the 1st floor) was right above the street, so there was quite a bit of noise through the drafty windows. But we were so jet lagged, we barely noticed!

Overall, nice hotel with a fantastic location to the tube. You can't be it for the simple fact that you can be to the tube in less than 5 minutes -- very convenient!

Room Tip: Make sure to check if the lift is working before agreeing to a room!

“Unhelpful and inflexible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

Unhelpful, inflexible management and staff who do not know how to treat potential customers. Wouldn't allow cancellation after I mistakenly made an online booking through tripadvisor for a room for one night that I didn't need even when I called them 5 minutes after making the booking to tell them of my mistake (the very helpful Tripadvisor help centre assistant also called them to no avail).

“Great experience!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

One of the best hotels i've stayed in London! The rooms are a little small but fully renovated in a very modern way.The reception area needs a renovation too but it did not matter. The location is great, just 1 block from the metro station and lots of pubs and restaurants around it.I would definetely go back!

Room Tip: If you ask for twin room try to get room 303(it is larger)

“Nice Renovated Rooms, Great Area.”

I had read a lot of bad reviews before my trip to London, so was a little bit worried about what the hotel might be like. Its not half as bad as what people make out. We checked in at around 3 in the afternoon, and although the receptionist wasnt overly helpful she wasnt unhelpful either.
The lift is quite small, and only hold 3 people, and the stairs are quite narrow, but there was only 2 of us so the lift was fine. When we got to the room, I was quite impressed, although it was pretty small, it was clean and tidy, had coffee/tea facilities, a hairdryer, a fairly big wardrobe, 2 mirrors, and a good sized bed. The teevieion was wall mounted and had a variety of channels. The bathroom was a good size, and the shower was really powerful, it even had a mirror that didnt steam up in there!
The only things that we were a little annoyed about were:
The windows were really old, and didnt shut all the way, and you could hear quite a lot of outside noise, there is a little green light that shines to show you where the door is in case of an emergency - not good if you need complete darkness to sleep, and there is no iron available in the whole hotel!
We enjoyed our stay, and will definatly be going back to London again, as for the hotel though, i think we will probably book into a premier inn or travelodge next time, at least you know what you are getting with them, and an iron is always available...

“Expensive and dirty”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011 via mobile

The only advantage is it is close to paddington but it does not justify a room price of 100 pounds.. Rooms are renovated but the service is awful.. I stayed for 3 nights and noticed that the people who are coming in to clean the rooms are just covering your bed. No toilet cleanining, no was basin cleaning..i also heard from some other hotel guests that there were some creatures :) in the room.. I didnt have fortunately. Rooms are so so so tiny.. Windows are poor..it is all windy in the room.. You can hardly balance the temperature by the hot air conditioning..i would never ever stay in this hotel..also the breakfast is very poor..
