“Clean and quiet but no room for old men!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2010

The hotel is small and has limited facilities - no bar, restaurant, lift but the location is quite good near Marble Arch. The room I got was too small, No 14 and no bathroom in the room. The room was clean but with the head of the bed by the door it was difficult to sleep. The cost was high at almost £200 during fair dates in November and for a small limited room I felt it was too high

“We were happy to have chosen this hotel...”

We were happy to have chosen this hotel - it's only a short walk to either Baker St or Marble Arch tube stations and we liked the location because we could walk to lots of things too. Our room was on the 3rd floor and although it faced the road, it was double glazed so noise didn't bother us. Beds are comfy and although the room was very warm, a fan is provided in every room. Continental breakfast was good value (included in room rate) and the free Wi-fi plus guest computer were a bonus. The room had tons of storage space for clothes etc, which is something we seemed not to find very often on our travels.

“Great Location, Very Helpful Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

We were in London for a shopping and sightseeing weekend, and found the St George Hotel to be a very convenient and comfortable place to stay for our purposes. Close to Baker Street, & Marble Arch tube stations, plenty of buses nearby and quite handy to eating houses and plenty of shopping in Oxford Street. The street where the hotel is located is very quiet except for the occasional bus passing by. We had three rooms, one - airconditioned! lovely! - on the ground floor, the second on the 2nd floor and the 3rd one on the 3rd floor, neither of which was air conditioned and so very warm and stuffy but at least there was a good sized fan provided in each one. Each room also had a fridge as well as all the other amenities listed on the hotel description. Problem with the fridge was that it was pumping hot air into the already warm room. This was ameliorated in two rooms by having the fridge in a cupboard, but the 3rd room (my son's) was being heated nonstop from the rear of this appliance. He considered turning it off but in the end didn't like to interfere with the hotel's property. Breakfast each morning was fresh and plentiful - cereals, juices, fresh and tinned fruit, toast white & brown, croissants, yogurts, tea and coffee. Menu also offered a full English which we didn't need or want but smaller versions were also offered e.g. omelette at a very reasonable extra cost of approx £2.50 (can't remember exactly but it seemed quite good). Staff were very pleasant and gave excellent assistance when we needed to do an online checkin for our return flights. They also accommodated us with an early check in to one of our rooms the morning we arrived although officially check in wasn't until 1pm, which meant we could leave all our stuff and head off down to the shops! Great!

“Not a 4 Star Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2010

I want to start by saying that the staff at the hotel were excellent, outgoing and tried very hard to please. However, and this is a big however, this is not a 4 star hotel or business hotel. It is a very solid 2 or 3 star hotel. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and serviceable. The beds were ok as were the linens, not at a 4 star level, but also not horrible or worn out.

The Internet was horrible and unuseable for work applications -- or even for general web surfing. Finally, as a 4 star rating they should have had air conditioning as the rooms were stifling hot even with a fan and the windows wide open which meant that all of the London traffic noise kept you awake throughout the night.

Again, the staff were terrific and put every effort into helping. It would have better to have set the expectations as a really good 2 or 3 star hotel instead of positioning as a 4 start.

“no air conditioning or elevator”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2010

Overall, this hotel is nice; however, being used to American chain type hotels, I was un--pleasantly surprised at two things: they do not have a "lift" (elevator) OR air conditioning. We stayed in room #17 - we had to climb 7 flights of narrow windy steps to get to our room. (try lugging your bags up those stairs - yikes) It was located in the rear of the hotel - our friends stayed in room #16 which was in the front of the hotel and was loud due to street traffic and very bright and sunny b/c of the lack of shades. If you closed the curtains then no air circulated. They did provide fans in the room but it was an unusually hot week in London so the rooms were a hot box!!! The hotel was clean and the staff friendly. The location was very central which was good. Would I stay here again? It would have to be a rear room and on the 2nd floor!!!
