This is the third time my husband and I have stayed at this hotel in the past year and we have received a complimentary upgrade every time (I still don't know what a standard room looks like!).
As mentioned by previous reviewers the service here is excellent with very friendly staff. I found the staff in the bar particularly friendly.
We returned to our room on Friday to get ready to go to the theatre and found a little anniversary cake from the hotel in our room which we thought was a really nice touch. When we returned from the theatre later on we found that rose petals had been placed on the bed in the shape of a love heart which we thought was just lovely. It's the little things that can make a big difference.
As always, the Sofitel bed was amazingly comfortable and the room facilities were good. The only additional item we would have liked would be a coffee maker. I believe some of the rooms have them as we had one the first time we stayed but I assume it's only a certain grade of room that has them. However, a kettle and tea/coffee sachets was fine in our room.
We only had two small niggles with our stay. Our paper didn't materialise on our last day (Sunday). I mentioned it as I was checking out but no comment was made (I think the person checking us out may have been distracted as she was printing out our bill at the time). Also, it took quite a long time for us to get our car back. My husband had phoned reception at 8.30am to inform them that we would be checking out in about 20 minutes (first phone call to reception had gone unanswered so I think they were busy) but we had to wait until nearly 9.10am before our car was brought to us. However, these are minor issues and can probably be put down to staff shortages on the day. They certainly won't put us off returning in the future!
