“Terrific London base for Aussie couple”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2011

We initially chose 51 KC after reading reviews on Trip Advisor. We stayed in Apartment 7 (Studio Apartment). It was more spacious than expected with plenty of room to move and plenty of storage space - wardrobe, cupboards, side tables and storage for suitcases. While the kitchen was very 'compact' (really only room for one person at a time- but it is a ‘studio’) it was quite adequate, unless you are planning to cook gourmet meals. It had a convection microwave, bar fridge and twin hotplates (hobs) – could have done with more microwave cookware though. We spent 10 nights in the studio apartment and didn't once feel at all cramped. Very secure and relatively quiet surroundings given the proximity to the heart of South Kensington- close to all the good things South Kensington has to offer. 51 KC is just a short stroll to Kensington Gardens and some good restaurants- ranging from haute cuisine to good Chinese takeaway (The ‘Stick and Bowl’ in High Street). The whole foods market and Marks and Spencer is just around the corner, so we were able to stock up on food items or venture out to dine. The staff were extremely helpful, both prior to our stay and during it - nothing was a bother and we felt very welcome here. On the day we left our pre-booked taxi did not arrive and we did not have an alternate cab number to call and reception was not yet open - but Helen, a 51 KC staff member who was just arriving at work, noticed our predicament and offered her assistance, she immediately arranged alternative transport for us and we managed to arrive -just in time to catch our flight; so the service continued even after we’d checked out. The room was very clean and our experience in London was enhanced by staying at 51 KC. We were very well looked after and we'll definitely stay here as our preferred home away from home when we next visit London.

Room Tip: Studio 7 would be less noisy than the front one

“Felt like living in London, will stay again”

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment and thought it was great. We have stayed in many places in London but will definitely make this our place to stay in the future.
The apartment is as large as you would expect for the location. All fully furnished rooms but obviously in central London things are not massive - this applies to all hotels etc.
It is an old building, so don't expect perfection in skirting boards etc, but everything was clean and well ordered.

Was a fantastic location and this was definitely a key selling point for us as we had a short stay and it enabled us to make the most of our time in London. We left feeling like we had a taste of living the good life in central London. Everything is walking distance including food, coffee, Tesco, M&S, tube etc. Despite location, never had any noise at all and had nice quite evenings.

Felt very secure as an embassy is next door which seemed to have a permanent police presence. Policeman was always very friendly and said hello to the children every time we walked past - kids loved it.
Not a cheap place to stay but we found it a great splurge to end a holiday and well worth it.

We didn't see much of the staff, reception is not manned all day and we were mostly out when they were on. This suited us well as we hate the feeling of being "monitored" that you can often get in small hotels. Also, staff were always good when we did need to contact them.

Will definitely be back.

“Has the advantage of a great location but the staff are very rude”

Location was convenient so if you don't mind small, dark and cold rooms or don't need any help or information from the staff then it's fine. Most of the staff were ok if a little cold but one girl in particular was very rude and arrogant which spoilt the whole experience.

“Simply Perfect”

I am a little late with my review but better late than never!

My husband and I stayed here in October of 2010 and it was one of the nicest all around apartment experiences we have had in many a trip to London. We rented the 1 bedroom and, at first, we weren't sure we liked the room. It was formerly the library and had lovely wood paneled walls but is located at the back of the building. I was not concerned that it had no view but the room seemed dark to us at first and it was a sunny day when we arrived. However.....the hotel staff offered to upgrade us to another, sunnier room the next day when there was availability. So, we weren't sure as we had already unpacked and just went on with our stay.

I have to admit that, although the room was a bit darker during the day because of it's location in the building, at night when we returned from our day of sightseeing, the room was about as cozy as a room gets and the electric lights on the beautiful wood paneling
was absolutely lovely and we became quite attached to our flat! The staff must have thought we were barmy but we decided to stay put and were very glad we did.

A couple of things....the rooms were exceptionally clean...no fuzzy corners or anything like that! Ditto for the bathrooms. Very clean and modern. For those unfamiliar with Britain, their toilets are different and it seems you have to pump the handle to get them to flush. Not so with those at Kensington! Very modern and they flushed easily. I know, sounds funny but everything worked perfectly and was decorated to a very high standard.
Staff were great and went way out of their way to make us happy. Biggest thing and very important too......the place is dead quiet at night and considering you are right around the corner from Kensington High St., that's amazing! Perfect for sleeping and noise will keep me awake.

All in all, Kensington Court gets very high marks from us and we will be repeat customers.

“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2011

We stayed at 51 Kensington Court for a week, and we definitely want to go back again. Location was great, (there's a pub called "Goat Tavern" near the apartment which serves nice beer) room was tidy and spacious, and atmosphere of neighborhood was good with old historical red brick buildings. Staffs were friendly and helpful, and we could keep the room until the departure time on the last day even after the reception hour was over. It's so nice to have a kitchen in our room because we can cook whatever we like when we're tired of eating out. There's M&S and Whole Foods just in few minutes' walk, and we could also save some money by cooking by ourselves. (Food at restaurant in general is very expensive for its quality in London)
