I was surprised to read some of the derogatory reviews about this travelodge on this site. My husband and I stayed here last night and we were most pleasantly surprised by the friendliness and excellent service of the staff. We booked in the sale and got the room and breakfast for £38 for the both of us so it was amazing value given the location too. The bed was a little soft for our taste, the decoration was plain and you wouldn't choose to spend a romantic weekend there, but it does not profess to be a luxury hotel. The breakfast was varied and tasty, with fruit, cereal, yoghurt, pastries, full cooked breakfast, etc. If you want cheap accommodation in the centre of London it's all that it needs to be.

The hallways smell a bit mouldy (4th floor), and the wet room floor lino was not meeting the shower so water could get in.
On the second night the room heater stopped working along with a draft coming from the windows, I woke up cold.

However the Location is fantastic and the staff are very friendly and helpful. If you are getting it cheap stay here - if not shell out a little more for at least a premier inn.

Good location right in the City area, only a couple of minutes walk from Liverpool Street station/underground. There's a tesco Metro near by. The hotel itself seems pretty "tired", the room was clean and basic but not exactly value for money.

Bedside cabinet was missing from one side of the bed; taps were leaking in the bathroom; double glazed window didn't close properly so let noise in overnight.

Didn't try the restaurant, but there are many places to eat near by.

Overall, Ok for one night but not the best value.

The hotel is 5min walk from Liverpool Street Station thus wonderful for getting anywhere, and super convenient if flying to Stanstead Airport. Supermarket and pubs open also in the weekend. We ate at The White Heart pub where for a good price we both had some of the best English beers and traditional English dishes, good home cooked quality.
On our many visits we found the hotel always clean and the staff friendly. There is a possibility of an early (12pm) check-in and a late (3pm) check-out. Both at an extra £10, I think. Despite always visiting on weekends, the rooms are quiet. We could never hear the lift, maybe because it NEVER works (4 visits now in 2-3 years). There is also just one armchair in the room so if you both want to sit at the table and eat the food you ordered from downstairs etc, take turns or eat in bed.. It is fine for a short stay as the price and location are really good but, if possible, we always try to look elsewhere first.
