“A short stay in London”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

The hotel is just a short walk from Great Portland Street tube station which is handy if arriving by public transport. Black cabs can come right up to the front door.

We arrived on a Thursday afternoon. Check-in was swift and efficient having pre-booked through the Priority Club. The receptionist even gave us a voucher for a free 1000 points which will come in handy!

The hotel occupies a city block and the rooms are arranged around a bleak inner yard. I have stayed here before and on that occasion as well as this, I have been on rooms on the inside of the building which are very quiet so I cannot say if the same is true for those facing the streets.

The room was compact, modern and clean with a large flat screen TV with a large selection of channels. Not a great selection for non-english speakers though. The WC/bathroom was clean and the bath towels were huge! The room had a trouser press, an ironing board and iron and a decent sized safe large enough to accommodate a laptop.

The room was extremely warm when we arrived and it took some hunting to find the valve to control the radiator. I turned it completely off and the room was still warm but luckily the windows in this hotel can be opened which is something I don't often find in London so sleeping was fine.

Breakfast was the standard fare for Holiday Inn; hot and cold buffet, cereals, pastries, bread and toast. The breakfast area coped on the Friday morning but seemed too small on Saturday and Sunday mornings when guests were overflowing onto tables in the bar area.

I note what a previous reviewer has said about wi-fi but as I never use the rip-off wi-fi in any hotel, I can't comment on the service.

This is a well situated hotel close to Regents Park in one direction and just 10 minutes walk from Oxford Circus in the other. A great base for a short stay. We'll be back.

Room Tip: Rooms on the inside of the building will not have street noise.

“Hotel great, Internet connection weak”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012 via mobile

I was here for a 3 day course. Bedroom not glamorous but had everything you need. Loved the pillow menu and that the towels were big. Breakfast had a wide selection and the lunches were lovely. They need to sort their wifi out if they want to be a contender for business conferences. It was very slow and very frustrating.

Dear Warnstickle,
I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. I note your comments on the size of the bath towels. We have introduced bath sheets into all of our rooms to improve the shower experience and it is great to hear positive feedback.

We are reviewing our WiFi offering for conference guests. We currently have a 35mb per second, line into the hotel that we are looking to increase, so we can improve speeds for our guests.

Kind Regards

“Local Knowledge - dont ask the Concierge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Stayed for a show and stay break for our anniversary weekend. We asked the concierge for a local champagne bar - and he had to look on the internet and then couldnt find anywhere. In fact no one seemed to know of a special place to have a drink - they ended up recommending the local "pub" which was okay but we had hoped to start our stay with a glass of champagne or two and this pub had even run out of proseco. After changing and returning to reception we asked him to get a cab for us. I have never ever been in a London cab with a driver who spoke very little English and who had a Sat Nav where he keyed in the postal code for the restaurant which I had written down - whatever happened to "the knowledge"
The hotel in itself was all you would want for a one night stop over in London, clean with tea and coffee making facilities and and adequate bathroom. The hotel did upgrade us to an Executive Room but this was still quite small so dont know what sort of size the normal rooms were. Breakfast was busy but plenty of choice on offer and service was very efficient and friendly.

ear BobbieJ,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I appreciate your feedback regarding the concierge service. I have shared this with the team who have now located a local champagne bar.

Our front office manager will be following up with regular checks on their knowledge.

I have noted your comments about the size of the executive room. All of our room’s both standard and executive are of an equal size. We have 6 accessible rooms that are larger. The difference in the executive rooms is the furnishing and the amenities that are more luxurious.
I am glad that you enjoyed your stay.

Kind Regards
