The hotel is just a short walk from Great Portland Street tube station which is handy if arriving by public transport. Black cabs can come right up to the front door.
We arrived on a Thursday afternoon. Check-in was swift and efficient having pre-booked through the Priority Club. The receptionist even gave us a voucher for a free 1000 points which will come in handy!
The hotel occupies a city block and the rooms are arranged around a bleak inner yard. I have stayed here before and on that occasion as well as this, I have been on rooms on the inside of the building which are very quiet so I cannot say if the same is true for those facing the streets.
The room was compact, modern and clean with a large flat screen TV with a large selection of channels. Not a great selection for non-english speakers though. The WC/bathroom was clean and the bath towels were huge! The room had a trouser press, an ironing board and iron and a decent sized safe large enough to accommodate a laptop.
The room was extremely warm when we arrived and it took some hunting to find the valve to control the radiator. I turned it completely off and the room was still warm but luckily the windows in this hotel can be opened which is something I don't often find in London so sleeping was fine.
Breakfast was the standard fare for Holiday Inn; hot and cold buffet, cereals, pastries, bread and toast. The breakfast area coped on the Friday morning but seemed too small on Saturday and Sunday mornings when guests were overflowing onto tables in the bar area.
I note what a previous reviewer has said about wi-fi but as I never use the rip-off wi-fi in any hotel, I can't comment on the service.
This is a well situated hotel close to Regents Park in one direction and just 10 minutes walk from Oxford Circus in the other. A great base for a short stay. We'll be back.
