“Perfectly Acceptable Budget Option - Except for the Towels”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I spent 1 night here to attend an event in the vicinity. Check in was fine, competent and efficient.

My double room was fine, clean and basic with tea and coffee facilities. The main irritation was the size of the towels. The bathroom had 2 small towels which I initially assumed were hand towels. Only on emerging from the shower did I realise that these were intended as bath towels. I do expect hotels to have a better range and size of towels for guests and think that this is something the brand could do with fixing.

That said the water pressure was good and the bed was comfortable. There was some street noise but not a vast amount.

The location was good for my event but I didn't feel entirely safe in Stratford, especially late at night.

Breakfast was acceptable, limited range of items but surprisingly good coffee. Checkout was efficient and the directions given by the clerk were accurate.

I wouldn't stay here for a romantic break or for more than 1 night but for the purposes I needed it (i.e. somewhere to sleep after an event) the hotel was perfectly fine and met my needs. If you can get a good rate then definitely worth choosing if you need to be in Stratford.

Room Tip: Rooms not overlooking the main road are quieter.

“Got all the basics right”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

I don't need much from a hotel - a quiet room, comfortable bed, decent shower and clean. Was very satisfied with this hotel.
About the only downside is they don't have their own parking. The Stratford centre is nearby, and allow overnight parking, £1 if you arrive and leave outside shopping hours, £25 for 10-24 hours of parking. I paid £21 arriving at 3pm, leaving at 11 on Sunday.

“Fair value for money”

Had originally planned on staying at another, nearby hotel, but they only managed to put a hold on my funds through my credit card and not complete a reservation for, so I opted for this hotel instead.
Ibis are a chain of budget hotels and this particular hotel isn't exactly one of their flagship hotels, so expectations were quite modest. But upon arriving at the hotel, around midnight, we were pleasantly surprised to find the lobby clean and quite inviting. The staff member that greeted us was very polite and handled the whole check-in process quickly, provided directions to the lift and answered the few questions I had as well.
We got a room on the first floor, facing the busy street outside the hotel, but besides the occasional heavy truck we hardly heard any noice. The double bed was very comfortable and both the room and bathroom appeared nice and clean.
The TV has a few of the most basic channels, if you wan't more you must pay for this. WiFi is also something you have to pay for and there I had problems getting connected, but since I had Mobile Broadband from 3, I used that instead (it had excellent signal and speed).

We had also taken advantage of an offer of breakfast at 50% off the regular price. You don't have to be an early bird to get breakfast, which is especialy nice during a weekend break. The selection was a little limited though and sometimes you had to wait a bit for certain items being re-stocked, but nothing too bad. There was quite a bit to still keep me satisfied att the price.

The location of the hotel isn't stellar for central London, but for visiting the new Olympic area and the Westfield centre it is OK. You can take a shortcut through the Stratford Centre to get to and from Westfield, Stratford Station and Stratford International Station. The stations are located in Zone 3 of the Transport for London system.

All in all we had a pleasant stay and got a couple of good nights sleep and really had no problems with this hotel and can recommend it for others looking for budget accomodation in the area.

If you need to get from Gatwick Airport to the hotel, take a train to London Bridge (a fair bit cheaper than the Gatwick Express as well) and from there take the Jubilee Line on London Underground, towards Stratford, where the train terminates, after around a 13 minute journey.
