A rare experience for me, I needed to stay in London on my own after a meeting so I could catch my train home easily in the morning. With this in mind, I research a convenient hotel close to Paddington Station. The Shaftesbury Premier Hyde Park is a perfect fit for that, being a few hundred yards round the corner in Westbourne Terrace, an easy walk. The only other consideration was the very reasonable discounted price I found on line. The review I'd seen were pretty mixed, but not scary, so I reckoned it would be alright, if not that brilliant.
The reality was a delight - set back from the main road, the entrance is attractive and well-maintained. The reception area is bright and the staff charming and helpful at check-in. My room was a small single at the very back of the hotel. Immaculatly clean with what seemed a newly-fitted en-suite, the lack of space was not an issue for just one night, might have been different if I were staying for some time, but the thing which really pleased me was how totally quiet it was at the back of the hotel.
I didn't eat in the hotel, as they didn't offer evening meals when I was there, but there are plenty of local eateries.
I would definitely stay again.
