We were booked to stay at the Marble Arch Inn London for 5 nights in November 2011.
We were required to pay in advance, so therefore no opportunity was available to inspect the rooms etc, so we were therefore dependant on the photo's etc provided by the booking agency.
Upon entering the hotel, the very strong smell of paint fumes caused my wife who suffer's from asthma to start choking up. We went to our room, and the smell was stronger still, and additionally, the room could not fit 2 people with luggage. We had emailed the hotel on several occasions to advise them of the large amount of luggage we had with us, and we received no response.
Be that as it may, given the smell of paint and my wife's asthma, we could not reasonably stay at the hotel as it would cause her significant grief. As such, we attempted to speak to the receptionist, who laughed when told of my wife's condition, and refused to provide us with a refund to allow us to find another hotel. We offered to pay the first one or two nights accommodation to ensure the hotel wouldn't be out of pocket, but this was also laughed off by the fantastic staff at this hotel.
We were told at 6pm we would need to speak to the manager when he finished at his mosque at 8pm. We asked at 8pm to speak with the manager, and were told he was now unavailable for the rest of the night. We were told we could speak with him the next morning at 9am.
After spending the night in another hotel, not having actually checked-out of the Marble Arch, we returned to request to speak to the manager. This time we were told he was in a meeting, and that we could speak with him in another hour. We returned to be told now that he would be unavailable for the rest of the day now, and we still could not have any sort of refund.
As the hotel was refusing to refund me, I asked for the key to the room I was still paying for, and was told I couldn't have it as there was workers performing maintenance work. I didn't believe them and therefore went to the room and knocked on the door to find that the hotel had already given our room to another couple. We could still not get a refund, even though by
this stage the hotel had received its fee from the new guests staying in the room. Did I mention we hadn't actually checked-out?
Great first impression of London!
We would sleep on the street, or in a sewerage system drain, before considering ever returning to pay money to these unreasonable, inconsiderate, pathetic excuses for human beings. DO NOT STAY THERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!!! There are literally thousands of other hotels in London, and it is not worth the stress, hassle, or your time, to stay at this 'hotel'. Furthermore, these people do not deserve your money.
As you will see, the only form of communcation you will get from the so-called manager of this hotel will be the pathetic response to this and every other negative review placed on Trip Advisor. He (I assume it's a he) attempts to rubbish every review as clearly the people paying money to stay there would have no idea what does and what doesn't constitute a good hotel and good service.
You be the judge for yourself as to whether you want to take the advice from people that have stayed or had to leave the hotel due to its condition, or if you would like to take the advice of the mythical manager who will avoid guests at all costs rather than discuss any issues you have with this 'remarkable' hotel.
