“IS THERE WORST THAN THAT?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I don't know from where to begin. They charge GBP75 per night for double room instead of begging people to stay there. The only possitive thing is the people who work there and the location. The room has 2 beds next to each other and a small place just to stand to put your clothes on. Suitcases must be on the bed if you want to open them. A piece of wood on the wall with 3 hangers is for hanging your clothes. An other piece of wood - on which i heard my head on twice due to luck of space -, just to put your things on (don't get too excited, enouth place just for some makeup things). Bathroom was so tiny that there was no way to fit 2 people together on the same time. We arrived there at night so there was no way to leave immediately. We went to bed and from the noise we slept only for 2 hours and on 6 am we got up. My husband slept next to the window which didn't close well the heating was on and off every one hour, so we got freezing the whole night. This was our first time to London so you can imagine our dissapointment. We booked this hotel becuase we thought it was ok 100 euros per night. But unfortunately i didn't see any reviews before. Now I got my lesson. Any way first thing in the morning we left, found an other hotel just one minute from Oxford Str., paid the double money but at least that was a proper hotel. The full amount I paid for Marble Arch Inn was non refundable so i didn't get any refund. If you are planning visiting London don't even think on choosing this hotel. Is the worst that i have ever seen in my whole life. And i have been to other europe countries. Is better to stay a little bit longer from the center instead of staying here.

This guests requested a twin room on the first floor facing the road and that was exactly what they got.
Soon after their arrival, they started complaining about everything and wanted their money back.
We also offered them a triple room on the ground floor at the same price.

When we told them that the booking was non refundable, they threatened us with all sorts of things including a nasty review on TripAdvisor.
As such we will not attempt to refute any of their statement as it is all made up.

“Not very comfortable”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I stayed here with my boyfriend for two nights on the weekend of Jan 20th-Jan 22nd. It cost 140£ for the two nights. Our room was below ground level and was extremely small. The bathroom was also very small. Owing to the fact that the room was in the basement, it was very dark.
I have asthma and during both nights I wheezed very badly. I had to sit up every four hours and take my reliver inhaler. The ventilation was very poor in the room. I also think the room could have been damp and the radiator heating probably made me worse.
I think most people wouldn't be bothered by this but I guess if you are an asthmatic be careful of this hotel.
All in all, I was very disappointed. This hotel is more like a hostel than a hotel. The walls are very thin so you can hear people in the corridors and the room we had was too small to be comfortable.
The only good thing is the location of the hotel. It is extremely central and situated in a lovely area.
80£ per night was far too expensive.

We are sorry to read about your experiences.
Our basement rooms are all fully ventilated and have outside windows.
They are very popular with most of the guests as there are very quiet and comfortable.
We could have changed your room had you told us of your condition earlier or even after your arrival.
Our rooms are a bit small but then as you said we are in an excellent location.
Most of our guests are very happy with the facilities, friendly staff and the location of the hotel at a very competitive central London prices.

“Great location, helpful staff, great value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

For the cost, this hotel was great. The staff were very helpful, the rooms were fine and clean, and the location was great! If I had to pick a fault, it would be the stairs for the upper or lower floors with no lift (but that's probably because I am very small and had a very big bag to try and carry down them). WIll definitely stay here again when I am next in London.

We appreciate your kind words and look forward to seeing you again at the hotel.
We would love to install a lift but the size of the buildings will not allow us to do without
reducing the room sizes and communal spaces.

“Value for moneY”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011 via mobile

We stayed here for one night and were very pleased with the location. It is just round the corner from the shops in Oxford Street! The room we were given was very large and clean. The shower room was very small but the shower was very good. Lovely thick white towels! Reception was helpful and we were Llowed to leave our luggage whilst we went shopping. All in all great value for money and we would use it again

Thank you for your kind words. We appreciate that the shower rooms are bit small but we have tried to maximise the facilities available in each room in central London buildings which, as you know, are not that big.

“Absolutely terrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

We were booked to stay at the Marble Arch Inn London for 5 nights in November 2011.

We were required to pay in advance, so therefore no opportunity was available to inspect the rooms etc, so we were therefore dependant on the photo's etc provided by the booking agency.

Upon entering the hotel, the very strong smell of paint fumes caused my wife who suffer's from asthma to start choking up. We went to our room, and the smell was stronger still, and additionally, the room could not fit 2 people with luggage. We had emailed the hotel on several occasions to advise them of the large amount of luggage we had with us, and we received no response.

Be that as it may, given the smell of paint and my wife's asthma, we could not reasonably stay at the hotel as it would cause her significant grief. As such, we attempted to speak to the receptionist, who laughed when told of my wife's condition, and refused to provide us with a refund to allow us to find another hotel. We offered to pay the first one or two nights accommodation to ensure the hotel wouldn't be out of pocket, but this was also laughed off by the fantastic staff at this hotel.

We were told at 6pm we would need to speak to the manager when he finished at his mosque at 8pm. We asked at 8pm to speak with the manager, and were told he was now unavailable for the rest of the night. We were told we could speak with him the next morning at 9am.

After spending the night in another hotel, not having actually checked-out of the Marble Arch, we returned to request to speak to the manager. This time we were told he was in a meeting, and that we could speak with him in another hour. We returned to be told now that he would be unavailable for the rest of the day now, and we still could not have any sort of refund.

As the hotel was refusing to refund me, I asked for the key to the room I was still paying for, and was told I couldn't have it as there was workers performing maintenance work. I didn't believe them and therefore went to the room and knocked on the door to find that the hotel had already given our room to another couple. We could still not get a refund, even though by
this stage the hotel had received its fee from the new guests staying in the room. Did I mention we hadn't actually checked-out?

Great first impression of London!

We would sleep on the street, or in a sewerage system drain, before considering ever returning to pay money to these unreasonable, inconsiderate, pathetic excuses for human beings. DO NOT STAY THERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!!! There are literally thousands of other hotels in London, and it is not worth the stress, hassle, or your time, to stay at this 'hotel'. Furthermore, these people do not deserve your money.

As you will see, the only form of communcation you will get from the so-called manager of this hotel will be the pathetic response to this and every other negative review placed on Trip Advisor. He (I assume it's a he) attempts to rubbish every review as clearly the people paying money to stay there would have no idea what does and what doesn't constitute a good hotel and good service.

You be the judge for yourself as to whether you want to take the advice from people that have stayed or had to leave the hotel due to its condition, or if you would like to take the advice of the mythical manager who will avoid guests at all costs rather than discuss any issues you have with this 'remarkable' hotel.

This guest had writen a false review which was subsequently withdrawn by Trip Advisor.
He has now written another one under a different heading. This is all because we refused to refund him the amount paid. He found a cheaper hotel and wanted to cancel his advance rate prepaid reservation.

He had threatened us with all sort of things and hurled personal abuses to the staff members.

We will not bow down to his level and let our customers judge for themselves
