“barely for sleping..”

I stayed here with my boyfirend in february 07. I didnt have any expectations, and they were certanly met.. haha.. Now I just look back at it and laugh.. We had a room in the 5th, or so, floor. Even the exercise was free:P The hostel feels like being on a really shabby boat, with narrow corridors and uneven floor. You pretty much feel like you`re drunk because the floor goes uphill and downhill.. The bed was way to short so we slept diagonally on it. I know hotels and hostels in london are normally crap, but this takes "crap" to a whole new level.
To sum it up, if you`re desperate then its better than sleeping on the streets. But then again the streets are free...

“Absolutely the worst place you could stay!”

After looking for a cheap break to London whilst students, my boyfriend and I decided on this hostel for a one night stay (thank God that was all it was!). We booked a double, 'ensuite' room for just over £50.

This hostel couldn't have given a worse first impression, when we walked in there were pot smoking individuals sat around in the lobby. It took ages to check in even without much of a queue.

The room itself was practically a cesspit. Everything was falling apart in the room i.e. knobs hanging off the wardrobe, shelf inside the wardrobe had collapsed.

The 'ensuite' was nowhere big enough to even swing a cat. There was no hot water at all. You had to hold the shower head whilst having a (cold) shower. The hostel ran out of towels and when we asked on reception, we were told to use bedsheets and not just any bedsheets.... the ones on our bed!!!! The pillows were like pancakes and probably the same colour!

We did have a window in our room, but there was no point in it at all, there was a wall bang opposite it with an inch gap, if that. Fire safety fail!

I know it is a hostel and all that, but Jesus Christ!!!! £50 for that s***???!!! We actually went back to London a year later and stayed in a 2* hotel for £60 a night, and that was pure luxury in comparion!

Do not go there, even if you are desperate! A cardboard box would be more warm and welcoming.

“better not here”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2007

ok, well, the organization at this hostel is total crap. they double book rooms and they told my friend that they couldn't find her booking, and when she finally got her confirmation, they then moved her to another room the 2nd night without telling her, so when she came back to her dorm, she found a group of french girls who told her that it was impossible for her to stay!

the room itself wasn't too bad. the beds were pretty comfy and if you're in an ensuite bedroom, the bathroom is alright. the ensuite bathroom actually has a sink, which lacks in every other toilet at the hostel.

warning: the area is pretty sketchy. there r "witness appeal" signs everywhere asking ppl if they saw a robbery, murder, etc. occur just a block away from where the inn is, so...

honestly, once is enough. i wouldn't go back.

“It was okay.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2007

It was a bit loud and a bit of a hike from the tube, but all in all, a decent enough place to stay. They breakdown breakfast very early.

Better for a group of kids, I wouldn't stay here again, though.

“only if you're completely jetlagged and desperate”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2007

My boyfriend and I left NZ to live in Ireland...we had a holiday in Thailand first and were going to stay with friends for the night when we reached London but unfortunately it wasn't timed right. So shortly before we left Thailand and were due to arrive in London we frantically searched around websites for a decent but cheap place to stay. Unfortunately we didn't know anything about this website or lastminute etc so we just booked what we were able to get at such short notice. We originally had booked Astor Kensington - good area and it looked like a really nice hostel.

We went there once we arrived in London - was quite a mission when you're carrying around big packs and you're sunburnt and jetlagged but we managed to find the place....to find out that the website we had booked with had double booked the one room so there wasn't anywhere for us to stay.....

They organised the Astor hostel at Leinster Inn and a "free upgrade" so we had a room with a shower included. We were kinda pissed off but wasn't much we could do about. So found our way to Astor Leinster Inn - bit of a mission wandering around Leinster Square to find it! Not exactly that easy...found it eventually and it's basically a dump...... We had a "free upgrade" but we still paid 50 pounds for the night which is a rip-off! and it really hurt us since with the exchange rate it was $150 NZD!!

Our room had a very uncomfortable bed, springs in it and majorly sagged...our shower was literally a cubicle next to the bed...it was handy i guess but not exactly ideal. The toilet was across the corridor, down some stairs - definitely not ideal! Just one toilet. Only managed to sleep because hadn't slept in the past two days and was absolutely exhausted otherwise I definitely wouldn't have got an ounce of sleep...The hostel was incredibly loud - you hear every single footstep, doors slamming and the floor actually shakes with the amount of noise.

You can get decent deals/offers for not paying much more in price and you'll get a 4 star hotel so if you can avoid it - DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOSTEL!
