“Highly Recommended”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2011

Surely one of the best hostels in London: the room was confortable and clean with a big bathroom (though no possibilty to hang thing on), the building has a lot of character and the staff was young and very friendly; the general atmosphere was relaxed and fun.
the tube stations are quite far, but the bus service is really good and leave you on the corner of the street. its also nice to have the park so close, highly recommended!!

“nice ambience vs four flights of stairs (?!!)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 March 2011

A very lively place to stay. Backpacker culture at its max. Free exchanging of books and unused stuffs, cozy lounge, friendly staffs. During our two-nights stay the hostel experience some technical glitches and no key can be issued. The staffs remained jolly even when they were asked to open the door at 4th floor by different group of guests at different times.

Internet connection - not available to fourth floor so we had to come down to the lounge for the Wifi. Going down once and coming back up once is okay. But you will feel miserable if you find yourself forgetting sth up there when you finally reach the lounge at first floor. ARGH.

Kitchen - If you are on budget, you can get sth cheap from the supermarket and cook your own dinner. Sufficiently equipped. You are free to use the kitchen as long as you clean whatever you used after. People were generally coordinating during our stay.

Breakfast - very basic. White bread, jam, cereal, milk, coffee. If eating well is not at the top of your list, you will survive.

Location - okay. 15mins walk from the tube. (we didnt try the bus system).

Overall a cool place. My only qualms with the hostel is that damn flight of stairs! You are only allowed to store your luggage at the basement on the 1st and last day of your stay. So if you are to carry that 15kg backpack/luggage up the stairs, you may need a bit of physical fitness and determination.

“Nice hostel”

I can recommend this place, but be aware that a 8 dormy room has just 1 regular bathroom, so next time a 4-dormy booking will be the best. really nice english house but modern facilities.
and nice people at front desk

“NOT astor hyde park hostel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2011

Obviously the people who own this place are trading under the good name of Astor. The address is completely wrong and its actually just Hyde Park Hostel. The staff are rude and unhelpful. I was bitten by bed bugs like a lot of other people staying in my room. The location is good and the other guests are great. It has a kitchen and a TV which is good. The staff are so rude and when I asked what the managers name was the guy (Sam) on reception could not tell me! How ridiculous! You work at a place and don't even know your managers name! What BS! It's a good place to stay if you can deal with the horrible staff! Just don't ask for any help or talk to them and you'll be fine! Also, some of the stairs have NO carpet whatsoever!

“Buzzing Hostel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2011

This hostel is brilliant! The location is brilliant, only a 10 min walk from the Tube station (Gloucester St.) and it's on a really nice area. The staff are really helpful and good fun too. They organise nights out and meals for really cheap. You are allowed drink in the hostel which is always good, nothing worse than having to hide your drinking habits!
There is a really good lounge area with leather couches and and there is another area with a pool table!
The rooms were really clean, and the toilets were always clean too. The showers in the En Suites were amazing.
The Breakfast was grand, toast and cereal.
There are safes you can rent which is really handy for storing extra money, passports, boarding cards and things like that. Also the luggage rooms were really secure and were extremely handy.
There are lots of restaurants and shops close by(10min walk) and some 24 hour shops too. Its only a 5 min walk from The Science Museum which is great, also the Natural History Museum is at the end of the street!
Overall this hostel Rocks and i can't fault it at all!
