“Very good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Perfectly located for museums and the Albert Hall. Hotel is very warm and welcoming. Staff helpful. We had a Standard room and it was a good size. Clean and not cluttered with unnecessary furniture, just the bits needed. Bathroom hypermodern with a large efficient shower. Beds were big and reasonably comfortable - hard for hotels to have beds that appeal to all. We used room service and the food was excellent - hot and freshly cooked. Not overly expensive either. Breakfast was slightly disappointing with many dishes empty. No boiled eggs available and everything, including coffee and toast, was self service. But we will come back here as this was reasonably priced for a 4* London hotel.

Room Tip: Unless for a long stay - standard rooms are fine. Top floor gives a wonderful London sky-line view.

“Ok Hotel in a good area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Stayed there three nights last week and while it's not perfect, it's ok for this part of London.

The good bits:

- Friendly & very helpful reception staff.
- Good area of London, Gloucester Street tube a few minutes walk away.
- Very new looking rooms & very comfy bed.

The not so good bits:

- Room was very small & walls appear to be rather thin. Didn't need an alarm clock - the guest in the next room using the hairdryer completely sufficed to wake me up.
- Bathroom looks nice and new but found hair from previous guest(s) in shower, and not just one. Particular pet hate, that. Also, having a shower resulted in flooding the bathroom, partially due to the design of the shower cubicle and probably partially due to the drain being blocked a bit (hair?).
- One of the lifts broke down, unfortunately with me in it. Door didn't open on ground floor - quickly resolved by getting off on a different floor but still... Next time I passed, it had a sign on it that the lift won't stop on the ground floor - at least they knew about it...
- Water supply was switched off for a couple of hours one day for "important plumbing work". Was between 12 and 2, so no big deal but everything combined gives the impression that there are underlying issues with the building.
- In-room internet is £10 per day and wasn't particularly fast or reliable.

Over-all not a bad place for the price and location but certainly nothing special.

“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Great hotel good location especially for Albert Hall. Staff helpful although bar staff could be better trained as she did not have a clue and mixed up everyone's drinks.
Good room spacious and nicely decorated although there was a draught from the window did not bother us but could be a problem if it was really cold outside.
All in all would stay there again

“Just Right for an Overnight Stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We have no complaints at all about the Abba Hotel. Booked an overnight stay through the hotel's own website and got a really good deal. We had checked the deals with several of the hotel booking agencies that infest the web, but the Abba site itself had a great special.
The hotel is in one of the beautiful old apartment buildings in South Kensington, and has undergone a make-over. The sleek, modern design make-over complements the classical architecture of the old building giving the hotel a pleasant feel.
On our arrival, the greeting from the receptionist at the front desk was courteous and efficient, but devoid of any personality as is with so many London Hotels these days. A pity. Don't these newcomers know how to smile? However, one other member of staff we came in contact with, the lass who tended the small bar, was bright and bubbly. Refreshing to see.
Our room didn't have a view, but that was no problem for an overnight stay while we went to the Royal Albert Hall for Cirque du Soleil. The room itself was adequate, certainly not of the 5 star variety, but it was very clean and comfortable, the bathroom a highlight. The bed was absolutely huge, and very comfortable. There was a mini-bar, quite tiny, a safe in the wardrobe, and thick drapes on the windows to block out the light. The heating worked well, was on when we arrived mid afternoon, and the room stayed lovely and warm all night. And we had no problem with noise, it was very quiet in room 104.
We would have no hesitation in returning to the Abba Hotel for an overnight stay. An extended stay, however, would need a rethink.

“Could be nice but let down by cold room & no hot water”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Great location, room spacious, beds very comfortable, room clean and shower powerful and that's where the good ends. We had room 1009 a King Suite which we booked for a two day stay. When we arrived at the hotel it was 2 degrees centigrade outside and our room was freezing. We were informed that the heating wouldn't come on until 7pm. This was 5pm. The floor above has laminate flooring and the sound of footsteps comes right through the floors and woke us up at 2am. On our second morning there was no hot water at 9am on a Sunday morning so we had to have cold showers. On checking out we were charged the full rate, only when I insisted I would not pay were we were offered a discount. I don't know if the heating and lack of hot water were one-offs or not but the poor way these were handled would put me off going back. They could have offered us a drink at the bar to apologise for the lack of heating in the room but instead told us we had to wait until 7pm for the heating to come on.

Room Tip: Don't go for ground floor due to the noisy laminate floor above
