We have no complaints at all about the Abba Hotel. Booked an overnight stay through the hotel's own website and got a really good deal. We had checked the deals with several of the hotel booking agencies that infest the web, but the Abba site itself had a great special.
The hotel is in one of the beautiful old apartment buildings in South Kensington, and has undergone a make-over. The sleek, modern design make-over complements the classical architecture of the old building giving the hotel a pleasant feel.
On our arrival, the greeting from the receptionist at the front desk was courteous and efficient, but devoid of any personality as is with so many London Hotels these days. A pity. Don't these newcomers know how to smile? However, one other member of staff we came in contact with, the lass who tended the small bar, was bright and bubbly. Refreshing to see.
Our room didn't have a view, but that was no problem for an overnight stay while we went to the Royal Albert Hall for Cirque du Soleil. The room itself was adequate, certainly not of the 5 star variety, but it was very clean and comfortable, the bathroom a highlight. The bed was absolutely huge, and very comfortable. There was a mini-bar, quite tiny, a safe in the wardrobe, and thick drapes on the windows to block out the light. The heating worked well, was on when we arrived mid afternoon, and the room stayed lovely and warm all night. And we had no problem with noise, it was very quiet in room 104.
We would have no hesitation in returning to the Abba Hotel for an overnight stay. An extended stay, however, would need a rethink.
