“Not so good for such price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We're staying in this hotel 5/11/11 for 5 nights.
Room was clean and large enough. Manager on reception was kind and service was not bad. Also the hotel has a great location.
But some things don't let me to stay there again.
First one is door-key troubles. Every evening we had to change our electronic keys because they could not unlock the room door. I don't know now what is the trouble was but we was very annoyed.
Second one is terrible noise at night. Imagine you're sleeping and neighbor's door has breaking by hammer! The action continued about a half an hour then I waked up finally and went to ask what's happend? Yeah, stuff broke the door because neighbor couldn't enter into his room. Great?

“convenient, good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Nice small hotel over the pub - where breakfast etc is served ( fantastic choice ). Well furnished , smart rooms with new shower, within easy reach of Paliament ( arrange a tour on a mon or tues - its free and stunning!), We walked from Walerloo ( 30 mins) and to Trafalgar square ( 15 mins) . The staff were helpful ( we changed rooms as there was a noisy air con unit below our first one at the back ), but the air con in the room we were able to turn off !
Note that breakfast is extra tho.

“Prime Location, Friendly Staff, Comfy Rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We chose the Sanctuary House primarily for its location, but the comfort of the rooms and the friendly, helpful staff really made our stay enjoyable. It is literally 1 min. from Westminster and 2 min. from Big Ben. The room featured the most comfortable bed we have had during several trips to Europe. The real highlight is the on-site Pub, which serves wonderful food in a great atmosphere. Stella in the Pub is a gem --- incredibly helpful with sightseeing tips, plus great service! Highly recommend.

“Fantastic location,”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

We chose this hotel for its location, in the heart of Westminster. It provided an excellent base for my husband to rest with a good (if expensive) pint while I went out exploring. We couldn't belive how close we were to all the "sights" and a short bus ride took us up to Trafalgar Square for the Leonardo exhibition. Staff were very helpful and the rooms comfortable. We'd definitely recommend this hotel.

“Lots of pros, a few cons”

Our group had four rooms at The Sanctuary House, three standard with twin beds and one deluxe with a four poster king. The twins were the rooms just off the elevator, one on each floor, and turned out to be great rooms even though on paper they were probably the least desirable. They just had one window with curtains that closed to block out the light, and the air conditioning worked very well in each one. They were also away from the construction and garbage trucks, so the sleeping was easy. They each had large bathrooms with big tubs, and turned out to be a great value. The fourth room, where my husband and I stayed, was one of the front rooms, and would normally be considered to be a much better room. Unfortunately for us, the construction next door was in full swing. Also under our windows was general street noise, the smokers from the pub, and various garbage and recycling trucks. The three large windows provided a bit of a greenhouse effect heating up the room during the day, and the air conditioning was located in the ceiling and blew right onto the top of the bed canopy so the room never really cooled off. I wanted more than anything to rip that canopy off! We tried to open the windows because it was much cooler outside, but just couldn't stand the noise and smoke. I wouldn't hesitate to book this room in the winter once the construction is finished since otherwise it was a beautiful room with a comfortable bed. Very nice accommodations for the price and location in London.

As others have said, the location is great for sightseeing, but if you're looking for an area with cafes and restaurants, this isn't it. We had a great breakfast every day at the pub downstairs and ended up having three other meals there as well since we were tired and there was nothing else nearby. Since there were eight of us, we'd meet back up at the hotel to "regroup" and never make it back out again. It would have been nice to have restaurants and grocers on the street like you see in other neighborhoods in the city. It's definitely a business district.

If you want to take one of those hop on/hop off bus tours, the one called The Big Bus Tour has a stop outside the hotel, which is very convenient. It's not the company that you see everywhere online, though, I think that one is called The Original Bus Tour.

All in all, a great little hotel for the price, and the pub is really good too.
