I was staying in London for a 5 day training course, so I needed somewhere cheap to stay within easy reach of the training venue.
Te Ruskin fitted the bill admirably, being a few minutes walk from Holborn (my venue being located out East on the Piccadilly Line).
Being located right next to the British Museum, just off Russell Square and a 10-15 minute stroll from Covent Garden, the hotel is very well located for central London too.
So, £65 per night for a single room in a central location with a full English breakfast included, where's the catch?
In all honesty, there isn't one.
Sure, we are not talking 5 star luxury here, but then again they neither claim it nor charge it!
The stair carpet looked a little worn, he shared shower facilities were functional (that's the best that can be said - they work, although they are small and the floor is wet), but that's the worst which can be said.
My room was slightly larger than I expected, the bed was very comfortable, an I had a nice quiet view onto some gardens.
Breakfast each morning was freshly cooked to order and better quality than I've had at some chain hotels.
And the staff were polite, helpful, friendly and welcoming, each and every one of them.
The wardrobe was a bit rickety, and the "desk" was a wooden panel attached in an alcove at a bit too high a position to be comfortable, but overall the hotel was, for the price, excellent value, and I would have absolutely no hesitation in staying there again next time I need to stay over in Central London.
Room Tip: Get a room at the back if you can, they overlook a nice garden square and avoid any traffic noise.
