Don't get me wrong, some aspects of this hotel are very good. The location is fantastic, with an entrance into the lobby straight from Paddington station - no need to walk in the rain with your luggage. The reception staff were attentive, although a little slow, with a ten minute queue at both check-in and departure. The executive lounge was a welcome treat, and affords great views out over the hustle and bustle of the station concourse. The hotel does keep some mementoes of its GWR (Great Western Railway) heritage (the mural on the stairs and the art deco theme), so it is not an entirely soulless/standardised establishment. The room was of a good size (for London), and in a fairly quiet part of the hotel on the top (6th) floor. It was good to see that the windows opened and the room was cleaned to an acceptable standard. I stayed in a deluxe room and it had a decent sized desk (with desk lamp). I did a few hours' work one evening without feeling cramped. Included in the room were complementary bottles of water, good tea and coffee-making facilities (including a cafetiere), bathrobe, slippers and complimentary copy of the I newspaper in the morning. The bathroom was also a decent size, although the water temperature did seem to have a mind of its own!
However, despite all this the Hilton Paddington was not value for money. The room was cold, and no amount of fiddling with the control panel changed that. I managed to get wi-fi included in the cost, but none of my devices would connect with the login details provided by reception. The bed, whilst a good size, was not particularly comfortable. The mini bar in the room is ridiculously expensive, and works through electronic sensors, which means that if you move anything in the fridge then you are charged for it - a shame as you then can't store any of your own drinks in there.
The breakfast was average. The area around the hotel will provide you with a vast array of food outlets that are much better value for money - it's good to have so much choice in the station itself and on Praed street - from M&S food and Sainsbury's, through the fast food of Subway and Burger King, to nice little Italian and Thai restaurants all on the door step. That said, as a woman travelling alone I didn't feel entirely safe in the Praed street environment after dark. All of the above would have been minor niggles, but for the price they're charging (even by London standards). I expected, and I know I can get, so much more. Stay here if you really have to get that early-morning flight from Heathrow and the company are paying, or you find a good offer (I'd say less than200GBP per night Deluxe/B&B would be value for money for this hotel), but otherwise choose somewhere else to stay.

Dear Trainsandpiers
Thank you for both staying with us and also for your constructive and informative comments about the hotel ad your stay with us.
I am pleased that overall that you considered that the facilities of the hotel were good. However I a sorry to hear that you had problems with the heating and WiFi, if you have a minute spare please could you sed me a short note (to Mike.williamson@Hilton.com) so that I can check and follow this up in more detail especially as we have just installed WiFi with the help of BT throughout the bedrooms at some considerable expense. I understand your point regarding the mini-bars and their prices, the system is linked to the front office to ensure that items are billed to bedrooms as this is more efficient and because sadly in the past more than a few guests consume drinks and then leave early without paying for the items; the prices are a reflection of the high costs of operating a mini bar service in the bedrooms.
Thank you for your comment about breakfast. There are indeed a host of food outlets nearby if you wish to step outside the confines of the hotel. Other than the price may I ask what you would suggest that is to your preference and hence would improve the content of breakfast ?
Thank you also for your comments about the price. This does vary depending on the level of accommodation preferred, the days of the week or time of the year and hence the level of demand for accommodation, and lastly when you might book. I understand your point but would add that by comparing prices with our competition on a daily basis that I consider that our prices are competitive and offer good value in comparison; in general the earlier one books the lower the price and Hilton.com does offer our "Best Rate Guarentee".
Once again than you for taking the time to write, I do hope that we can see back a the Hilton London Paddington and if I can be of any more help please do write to me directly.
with kind regards
Mike Williamson
