“A good night's sleep”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I regularly stay at this hotel when in London for business. It's a Fullers hotel, which means that there are Fullers' ales and a fairly standard pub menu in the bar downstairs. The Mad Hatter faces onto Stamford Street on the corner of Blackfriars Bridge and the rooms on the front can suffer from traffic noise at times. All of the rooms are en-suite and provided with the usual amenities of courtesy soaps, washing gels, tea and coffee-making facilities and biscuits.
I've never had a bad night's sleep in this hotel.
Wifi is available throughout the hotel free of charge and provides a good internet connection.
The staff are helpful.
Meals are good value, although service can be a little tardy at times.
Although my trips have been for business, I would happily use the Mad Hatter as the base for a family visit to London.
Southwark tube is close and there are excellent bus services from the nearby stop.

Room Tip: The larger rooms are on the front of the hotel, but there is more traffic noise there.

“Great little find”

In an overpriced London hotel scene this is brilliant. Within stricking distance of the London sights, near Southwark tube, this hotel is friendly, clean, inexpensive (via late rooms), historical (former hat factory) and it's above a great Fullers pub!

“shoppers weekend”

I have recently been for a shoppers weekend in London with my daughter. Stayed at the Mad Hatte Hotel in Southwark. Very convenient while still being in a slightly quieter location. Near to Southwark and Waterloo tube stations and a regular bus service just around the corner. Room was very good, clean, comfortable, well furnished. Not too expensive (£250 for 2 nights for two people, £125 each) Staff was friendly and we had a very enjoyable stay. Would go there again. Happy to recommend it

Room Tip: We had a room at the front overlooking the street, but were not bothered by traffic noise

“A bit scruffy but you know, I kind of liked it”

It's best to think of this place as a pub with rooms rather than a hotel. It's got a good atmosphere, friendly staff and the location is great, just a short walk from Southwark tube and at the south end of Blackfriars Bridge. We had a superior room and I guess that just meant it was bigger. The accomodation is far from slick. For example in the bathroom the toilet seat was rectangular but fixed to a traditional round bowl. Not a great look. Decor was decidedly patchy and in need of a makeover. For Central London the price is OK.
Some reviewers have found it noisy and it probably is in summer when you have the windows open but in December it was fine. And it is a city centre location so noise is what you'd expect.
If you don't fancy the rather expensive breakfast walk down to The Cut where there's no shortage of places to eat.
Would I stay here again? Yes. And I hope someone gets decorating soon.

“A very good, no-frills hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Stayed for three nights over New Year. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. We asked for a quiet room and that is exactly what we got (at the back of the hotel, with minimal traffic noise from the nearby busy road junction). The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, the bed linen was clean and of nice quality; we got fresh fluffy towels daily, and the bathroom toileteries were refreshed as necessary. There are excellent bus connections to Covent Garden and to St Pancras station from the bus stop just around the corner. It's about a 30 minute walk to Covent Garden, about 15 minutes to St Paul's cathedral. The only (slight) negatives are that the room was a bit dark (due to the heavy lampshades), the net curtains needed a wash, and a small fridge in the room would have been much appreciated (although the reception staff didn't hesitate when I asked if our bubbly and juice could be stored for us in a fridge in the kitchen). We didn't have the breakfast, so unable to comment on that. Overall, a good no-frills hotel which we would recommend and where we would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: We had a room at the back of the hotel. Although we overlooked the dustbins and neighbouring proper...
