We recently stayed at the London Lodge in the Kennsington area of London, not far from the Earls Court underground station. It is one of likely hundreds of smaller hotels created from Victorian row houses in the Kensington area. The convenient location of this hotel cannot be overstated. It is about four short blocks from the underground station and Earls Court's many reasonably priced pubs and restaurants. Within a few blocks walk you can be on Cromwell Road if you turn to the left from Lexham Gardens, and Kennsington High Street if you turn to the right, with its higher end shops and stores, a nice supermarket. Both thoroughfares have convenient bus stops that take you directly to major sights in London. Getting around London is relatively easy with busses and the underground so close by. Buy a London transit Oyster Card for convenient access to both bus and sub-way transportation.
Aside the conveniece, the hotel is very nice. The hotel is in a quiet location. The rooms are larger than I anticipated. The room we had was nicely decorated, similar to one of our favorite hotels in San Francisco. It was not newly decorated since sun-fade was evident. An in room tea and coffee service was available in our room. A note for those using hair dryers ... there is no electrical outlet in the bathroom for dryers. There is a outlet near the room's desk and it is a bit dimly lit. The hotel restaurant was located on the lower level and served a reasonably priced hot breakfast in addition to the complementary cold breakfast. At the time of our visit, the hotel exterior was undergoing renovation, but there was no inconvenience to the hotel guests.
The high spot was the genuinely friendly service we received from each and every hotel staff member. The front desk staff was especially gracious in greeting us. They were helpful pointing out places to visit, providing directions to nearby public transportation stops and identifying nearby restaurants. The dining room staff was always friendly and quick to refill coffee and offer toast. They wanted satisfied guests. If we ever return to London, we will stay at the London Lodge.
