“Old British Charm with Exceptional Standards”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

As you can tell from our past reviews, we are very loyal to the Marriott. While under the Marriott name, the Grosvenor House has a a long rich history that the Marriott has preserved but incorporating Marriott's high customer service standards.

This is an extremely large hotel, so if you prefer a boutique option, this is not the right place for you. If you are looking for a full service luxury hotel, located in a premier part of London but just enough off the tourist track to be comfortable, then this is a good option.

The design and furnishings are very traditional which are appropriate for the architecture of the hotel, but I'm simply noting this if you prefer a contemporary option.

The beds and sheets meet a Marriott/JW Marriot's high standards. Also, housekeeping was exceptional.

Breakfast in the main restaurant is expensive (I believe close to $US 40 per person), but it is very good food with plenty of fresh fruits and other choices. Service was always reliable too. Also, they will make eggs to order, special toasts, or waffles and bring to your table if not served on the buffet and is included in the price. Breakfast was inclued in a package deal; otherwise, we may not have paid the price, but it was so filling, we never ate lunch.

We had gold member access, so also frequented the Elite/gold member's lounge. I did stick my head in to see the lounge at breakfast and it seemed way too small for the size of the hotel. It felt very crowded and harried. It did have a few warm food options, but it was mostly fruit and breads, and did not seem as stocked as well as it should be. We also stopped for afternoon tea one day in the lounge. It was ok, but once again did not seem to be very well stocked. I dont think the hotel has set aside enough resources/space for the size of the hotel and likely number of gold members.

Overall the staff was very nice and helpful, from the desk staff to bell staff to housekeepers to concierge. We would consider staying again or may try to the other Marriott at Park Lane which is slightly closer to the tube station, since Marriott has lots of West End London options.

Room Tip: We had a view of the interior courtyard. While not a great view, it was very quiet and away from st...

“Classy but pricey. Enjoyable stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I won a competition to stay here (could never have afforded it otherwise) and had an amazing time! Our car doors were opened for us on arrival and we were made to feel welcome and important. The foyer was huge yet still inviting but you really could get lost in the place. We stayed in a huge apartment type room with its own bathroom. The decor, especially the drapes were very regal with a modern twist. Staff when approached were helpful and professional.
We attended a function at the hotel in the evening and this was just exquisite with delicious food, entertainment and decor.
Breakfast was on an upstairs floor that you needed to obtain a passcard to gain entry to. This was in a small suite and taken in relaxing armchairs and coffee tables and was help yourself. I actually found the food running out wasnt readily filled up in this part of the hotel and the 2 young members of staff didnt seem to have a huge amount of customer service skills between them. Breakfast was the only part of this hotel that let it down.
A little foreword for you also -dont eat anything out of the room fridge - prices start at £3.50 for a Dairy Milk!
We were warmly thanked as we checked out.
A lovley stay.

“Expensive - but no surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

As you might expect from the location, this was never going to be the cheapest stay in London.

However, a very friendly place, helpful staff and great atmosphere.

Best bit was the very well stocked fitness suite. Awesome and totally clean and tidy.

“Nice hotel but very pricey!”

Room was lovely but had no tea or coffee making facilities which I think is ridiculous for a 5* hotel. When we rang down and asked for tea for one it came with a £12 price tag!
In a nutshell it's a nice hotel in a good location but i have stayed in Thistle hotels which are as good!

“Satisfactory”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I stayed three nights at the JW in January. I stayed with my brother-in-law so I requested two twin beds. We were placed in a handicapped accessible room on the second floor. It had twin beds and an extra large bathroom. However, the shower was extremely uncomfortable. It consisted of an overhead faucet surrounded by a curtain (no glass or tub); the gap between the faucet and the curtain was too small so the curtain would cling to your body. I survived, but if I had been traveling with my wife, we would have had to switch rooms. Other than this inconvenience, the hotel was nice but not overly luxurious. My Marriott Gold status gave me access to the Concierge Lounge. We visited it each morning for breakfast. It had a good selection of breakfast items, and the Lounge was well staffed—a definite advantage to staying at this hotel if you have the status. I liked the general location of the hotel, but if I was going again, I would stay at the Marriott Marble Arch. It is a five minute walk up Park Lane from the JW, and is adjacent to the Tube stop. This would have been more convenient. Overall, I would rate my stay as satisfactory considering the class of hotel.
