“Pleasantly surprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I stayed in this hotel for one night on a business trip. For the money in London I was not expecting too much but I was very pleasantly surprised. Yes, as with some of the other reviews, the hotel has seen better days but I found the room very clean and it had everything I would normally expect. It is a little noisy and the walls are a little thin. The bed was a little uncomfortable for me as I could feel the springs through it, but I slept okay. The staff were welcoming and very friendly.

I ate in the restaurant on the first evening and for breakfast. It was self service on both occasions but the food was tasty and good value for money.

For cheap accommodation near the tube this is fine. I will stay again.

“Perfect!”

What a great find! this hotel has it all for a budget break . It was easy to find , very quick to check in and lovely helpful staff. As previous reviews the hotel is in need of updating but in the current climate I understand this is not always possible, and it doesn't affect the experience at all. Another bonus is the cheap parking and even after check out they allow you to continue to use the carpark for only £2 an hour!! ideal if you want to have an extra day in London! Close to chalk farm tube ( approx 8 mins walk away) and a few mins from lovely primrose hill with its cafes and shops. Online booking deals made this a cheap and very cheerful break. We checked in at 2pm went for a walk and then got ready to go out , the staff gave us a tube map and wrote down how to get to the theatre ( only a few stops from west end) we went to see rock of ages ( the best show I have ever seen!) and then we went back and had a drink in the bar at the hotel , reasonably priced and cosy.

Room Tip: ask to be on road side as the big extractor fans are a bit noisy.

“Theatre and sight-seeing break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights on a theatre and sight-seeing break. It was relatively easy to get into the centre of London, but was nice to be able to stay in a pleasant residential area. The building has seen better days, but the room was warm and comfortable. The staff were welcoming and friendly.

The breakfasts were excellent with a comprehensive choice of food and drink. We ate in the restaurant on one evening. The meal was self service, but was tasty and good value for money.

“Basic and cheap but I wouldn't stay again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I was concerned when I read the other reviews, I hadn’t made the booking for this hotel and did try to get our group to stay somewhere else, but the booking had been made.

The upside: very clean, good shower, big towels, helpful staff and very cheap. Room includes hairdryer, basic shower gel, soap, kettle, tea & coffee.

The downside; single glazed windows which means it’s noisy, rooms are very faded, old furniture which is crammed into the room, the walls are paper thin and you can hear people in the next door bathroom. Broken chain lock on my door (317) but I didn’t notice until I’d arrived back after supper and I was too tired to start moving rooms.

I think the corporate rate we secured was £60 inc VAT and breakfast which is incredible for London.

If you are looking for cheap accommodation, not too far from a tube (Chalk Farm on Northern line) this is fine. Personally, I wouldn’t stay again.

“Spacious & clean rooms, quiet neighbourhood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

What I immediately liked about this hotel is the spacious rooms - at least on the first floor. The bed was big (though not the most comfortable I've slept it, but it'll do) and the room featured a couch and coffee table, as well as a little foyer. It was great for slowly waking up and having coffee. Each room has a kettle with an assortment of teas and coffee with little packets of milk, which I REALLY appreciated. There is a spacious bureau to unpack and a closet. Hairdryer is included and is key for traveling light.

The neighborhood was quiet and felt safe. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the Chalk Farm tube stop, which was lovely and just off the path enough to relax. It's a 15 minute walk to the London Zoo and Regents Park, which were both lovely.

The maid service was really good. Fresh linens daily.

Walls are thing - it's a little too easy to hear the neighbors through the door between hotel rooms. But, of course, this just depends on who you get as neighbors - a few nights we had quiet neighbors, and a few nights we had late night party people. Just bring a pair of earplugs or if you're on holiday like we were - stay up late and sleep in late.

I would definitely stay here again. The price is modest and the service is good.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the end of the floor where you'll only have one neighbor, as walls are thin, an...
