“excellent stay on great winter break offer”

We did not really know what to expect when we arrived at this hotel as the reviews were so mixed. However we were very pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable; the bathroom was nice and modern with a good shower. There was plenty of space in the hallway for luggage with a proper luggage rack in the room and plenty of space for hanging clothes. The walls were a little thin but nothing too major.

We thought that the food was excellent too. We had breakfast and dinner included in our deal and we had no complaints. Staff at dinner were courteous and friendly and we thought that the choice of up to £22 each was very reasonable - this let us both have starter and main. Breakfast was a lot better than at other London hotels with a good choice of cereals, fry up and juice/tea. I understand from what I have read on here that the cost if not included is £15 - to me that is incredibly steep, but not dramatically different from other hotels (Holiday Inn certainly charges a similar price).

In terms of location, the hotel is perfectly situated away from the hubbub of theatreland and Bloomsbury but only a few stops away from there on the Central Line. Bayswater and Queensway stations are very close (less than 2 minute walk to Queensway) and the 390, 94 and 70 buses stop outside too. Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are opposite which are beautiful - a real oasis in the middle of the city. Lovely for a stroll after breakfast.

We paid £159.00 in total for the room, breakfast and dinner (dinner only the first night) for 2 nights. The value was exceptional but we would nevertheless recommend the hotel for location, good food, friendly staff and the left luggage facility.

“Don't eat there!!!”

We stayed overnight 11th Feb on a groupon offer. The room was comfortable except too cold (given that there was snow on the ground outside!). Radiator couldn't cope at full heat. Staff very helpful but all they could do was give us extra pillows and duvets which we used to try to block the cold coming in through the (inadequate) windows. Our biggest issue was with the brasserie- ate there as it was included in the offer. Food was inedible!! Goats cheese so cremated it could be anything, veg lasagne I am sure had been frozen and defrosted, horrid taste and about four pieces of anaemic veg. My husbands soup (meant to be "vegetable" but could ahve been anything!!) and pie and mash equally bad. Go out- plenty of restaurants in the area!!!

“Smokers Room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed here over a Saturday night on 6th February using a Groupon offer. My main disappointment was that we were given a smokers room. It stank of cold cigar and cigarette smell. I asked to be moved to a non-smoking room but they were fully booked. We were given an air freshner spray which I sprayed at least 5 times on the soft furnishings to get rid of the smell. When I unpacked at home all my clothes smelt of smoke. The hotel said that it was the last room available, however at the time of booking they never asked whether I wanted smoking or non. Evening meal was OK - Bernie Inn style. The breakfast was again OK, although there was plenty of choice. We were asked for an imprint of our card upon checking in and then later in the evening when we bought drinks we had to pay cash and couldn't put them on our card!! Good position, staff attentive in the restaurant but the room really spoilt our weekend.

“Great location, if you can afford it!”

A friend and I stayed here on 6th February and had a decent stay. We both agreed the beds were really comfortable and we slept very well even though the hotel is near the road. The Twin room was a good size, with tea making facilities and a bottle of water. Breakfast was good, the fried breakfast was nothing special but they did offer chocolate muffins, which I thought was a nice touch!

The room cost £260 which I think is far too high for what was just an o.k hotel. I think you are paying for the location. I found the staff at reception friendly and we were able to check out at 1pm which was fantastic.

Room Tip: If you choose a room with a view of the park, you have to put up with the road. To sleep on the quit...

“Breakfast a rip off!”

Hairdryer was excellent as was storage space and lots of hangers. Breakfast was extremely overpriced. We had breakfast both mornings and were charged a staggering 62 pound for the pleasure!

Breakfast consited of for me on the second morning, some bacon and beans and one glass of orange juice. I didn't have tea or coffee or toast as there was no bread. I feel to be charged 15 pound for this is outrageous. We also eat in the restaurant and their burger is priced at 14 pound! 14 pound for a frozen burger!
