“Excellent customer service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed at the Lancaster Gate as part of a Superbreak package (and this was, in our opinion, excellent value for money). The hotel is close enough to the tube station to make a walk with cases quite straightforward. The outside of the hotel is quite impressive, so the inside of the hotel which is obviously being upgraded is currently a little disappointing. We rejected the first room on offer as it was too close to the lifts, and the noise from the doors, and the announcements could be heard from inside the bedroom. After quite specifically asking for a quiet room the second option was much better. It was a shame that our neighbours couldn't understand the No Smoking notices! I'm not sure that I would describe our room as "spacious", but it was perfectly adequate, and the bed was very comfortable.
We had breakfast every morning, and the staff in the dining room were efficient and helpful. Drinks are brought to the table, and will be refreshed if you need more. The food was standard fare, you could eat as much as you wished and we never felt rushed to eat up and move on.
We had a small problem when a personal item was mistakenly removed from our room during our stay. The operations manager on duty, Danika, dealt superbly with the issue and I commend her on her customer service. She even phoned me at home on her day off to let me know how she was going to resolve the matter, and how the missing item was replaced. When problems arise like this the positive attitude of a member of staff can make such a difference.
I would certainly return to this well positioned hotel and I would recommend it to you.

Room Tip: Stay away from the lifts, and don't be afraid to ask to see an alternative room

Thank you for taking the time to review the Lancaster Gate Hotel after your recent stay.
I was delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay at the hotel and found the staff, in particular, Darinka, to be thorough and helpful.
I apologise sincerely for the issue regarding the personal item that was disposed of in error and would like to assure you that this is certainly not normal practice. I undertand however that this matter was resolved to your satisfaction in a timely and efficient manner.
Should you decide to return to London in the future we would be delighted to welcome you back to the Lancaster Gate Hotel.

“HONESTLY ??? VERY AVERAGE, CHARGES EVERYWHERE”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I usually refer to an average hotel when the negative points are more than the positive ones. So here goes about this one.

NEGATIVES

- At a price of €100 per night I expected a much better looking hotel and a decent sized room. Unfortunately, the hotel is nice at the ground floor where the reception and the dining areas are located but it’s a completely different story from the first floor upwards. Main point was worn off carpets that need to be completely removed (including those inside the rooms).
- At a price of €100 per night I expect the breakfast to be included and not to be charged at €13 per person extra.
- At a price of €100 per night I expect the internet access to be free and not €17 per day. The explanation that another company is handling the internet and wi-fi access on behalf of the hotel is ridiculous. There are plenty of business packages from UK internet service providers that the hotel can use without having to charge customers.
- At a price of €100 per night I expected a decent sized room and not the tiny one that I was offered.
- The hotel uses a minicab service with pre fixed fares that are not followed at all. We took a cab to St Pancras Station and was told from the hotel that the fare was £20 and the driver asked for £23. Then I asked a cab to Heathrow Airport and was told the fare would be £40 and the driver asked for £45. Not a good and honest service I am afraid.
- At this day and age a lot of people are checking in for their flights online and print their boarding passes. There was only one computer with internet access in the reception area with a credit card reader on its side (£0.30 per minute!!!!!). No printer was connected at that computer and guess what, I couldn’t print my boarding passes and had to go to a nearby internet cafe to print them out. Surely the hotel´s management can spend £40- £50 to get one. It’s not that hard is it?
- They even charged us for keeping our 2 luggage for 4-5 hours. Another not guest friendly attitude.
- Most of Central London hotels use gas heating for their rooms. This one unfortunately uses hot air conditioning which made things unbearable in our tiny room. This is not even cost effective for the hotel, is it??
- The 2 lifts are the slowest I ve ever been and one of them was out of service during our 4 day stay. So, I had to use the stairs to the third floor.

POSITIVE THINGS

- Staff are friendly, polite and helpful.
- Breakfast is delicious.
- Plenty of TV channels available.
- Close to Central London and 5 minutes walk to Lancaster Gate tube station.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Lancaster Gate Hotel after your recent stay and I was disappointed to read and hear some of your comments.
We encourage all guest feedback as this gives us the opportunity to improve on our levels of customer service and needs. All your commens were duly noted and I am happy to confirm that we now have a printer attached to the computer terminal in the hotel lobby and we have addressed the issue with the taxi fares - please be assured that this was certainly not something instigated from the hotel!!
As you are aware the hotel is not purpose built but a victorian conversion so we do have variations in rooms size - we are however always happy to try and accommodate guest requests for larger rooms when we are notified.
With regards to the wi fi costs the explanation given is in fact correct and whilst you are correct in other packages being available it is not always possible to take advantage when contractual agreements are in place.
Currently the hotel has plans to refurbish the ground floor and once this has been completed we wil be able to offer a much larger luggage space. Currently as the space is very limited preference is giving to guests arriving at the hotel. The charge per bag is very minimal and a lot less than left luggage charges at airports or rail stations. I am happy to confirm though that this charge will be abolished once the refurbishement has been complted in the latter half of this year.
I am sorry that you feel that there was an abundance of charges but the hotel does not charge unnecessairly and these charges would have been similar in most other hotels.
Once again thank you for your time and comments which have helped us improve on our customer service and I hope that you would in light of the changes above consider returning to the Lancaster Gate Hotel on any future visits

“So Much for Loyalty.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Having been a regular guest at this hotel under its previous ownership, for over ten years booking for myself and staff in exess of £40k of revenue. I decided to see how things had progressed under the new owners. Upon returning to my room late in the evening the bedroom lights were not working, I tried to ring reception but there was no response. Reporting the fault first thing in the morning I was promised somebody would be" on to it" after an hour i gave up and showered and shaved in the dark wearing a petzl head torch. I made a complaint on booking out which was met with indifference and a promise somebody would get back to me, still waiting...

I was disapointed to read your comments and having investigated this matter further can confirm that a discount was applied to your acccount to apologise for the inconvenience and several attempts have been made to contact you on your mobile but no answer and no voicemail to leave a message.
Having checked your profile I can see that you have not stayed with the hotel, prior to this stay since April 2011, when the hotel was under new management so I would like to assure you that this is certainly not the norm for the hotel and every effort is made to ensure all our guests have an enjoyable stay.
Once again apologies for any inconvenience caused and I hope that you will decide to return to the hotel when you next visit London.

“Decent location, nice staff, will stay again.”

My business partner and myself decided to stay at the Lancaster Gate as it was affordable and in a decent location to travel around london. On arrival the staff were friendly and checked us in, however on going in to the room, there was an odd smell. I contacted the staff and they were very apologetic and provided a different room straight away. Some rooms are a bit dated, but overall the stay was nice, location good, breakfast buffet very good. Wifi is extra and you will have to pay £6 for one hour or the 24hr rate.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on one of the higher floors, even though the road in front of the hotel is not busy...

“Average - very average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Stayed here twice in 2011, each time managed to park on street opposite as I had been working late.
Had room service meal which was fine.
Did not sample breakfast as I had to be at work before service began.
Rooms were very small on each visit ... bathrooms also very small......in fact I have never had a smaller room.

Food was fine, place was clean enough, location is OK too.
Would stay elsewhere given a choice, but the price means my employers like the place at least :-)

Thank you for taking the time to review the Lancaster Gate Hotel after your recent stay. We welcome all customer feedback as we are constantly striving to improve customer satisfaction.
As you are aware the hotel is not purpose built but made up of Victorian houses so room size does vary throughout the hotel - should you return to the hotel in the future please do not hesitate to contact me and I will ensure you are allocated a larger room for your stay.
I was delighted to hear that other than room size all other aspects of the hotel including room service and housekeeping were more than satisfactory for your stay.
Once again thank you for your time and I hope we will be able to welcome you back to the hotel on your next visit to London.
