“Groupon voucher deal at the restaurent... never again!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I don't normally write reviews but I feel that I should warn people about going eating in ths hotel! I booked the groupon deal the day before I went just because I was going to hyde park for a walk and thought it looked like a good deal to surprise my boyfriend with. We got there a little late and I was worried that it would be booked up... well I need not have worried. When we arrived people looked surprised that we were heading towards the restaurent and when we got there we realised that it was completely empty! I had booked the meal the night before so they were expecting us but the staff were whispering amongst themselves as if it was a novelty to actually have someone in the restaurent! Needless to say we had the pick of every single table. We found it funny but also slightly worrying!

We were served the complimentary sparkling wine which was lovely actually. Then came the ordering of the food. I had been looking forward to the rump of lamb that was advertised so thats what we both ordered for mains. My boyfriend ordered the soup. The waitress had to check with the chef what the soup of the day was.. not surprising I guess as she probably didn't serve it much in the empty restaurent. She then informed us that it was potato and leaf! We hid our laughter but I did think this was very amatur for a waitress. A few minutes after we ordered the waitress came out of the kitchen to say there was no lamb. I was very disappointed and the only other red meat on the menu was steak which you had to pay an extra £5 on top of the deal. So i ordered chicken and my boyfriend got the sea bass. 2 minutes passed and again she came out saying there was no seabass! The really annoying this was that I specifically asked her the first time was there anything else that the kitchen didn't have so as not to be dissapointed and she reassured me that they had everything. Clearly not!

Then things went from bad to worse. My prawn cocktail was ok but my boyfriends potato and 'leaf' soup was pretty horrific goo on a plate with a soggy tiny bit of bread thown on top! Presentation 1 point, taste 2! Then my chicken came out extremely salty and tasted like something from KFC. There was also this horrific jelly like gunge that was supposedly peppercorn sauce. My boyfriend got the steak in the end but it was definitlely NOT worth the extra £5! Overall an extremely poor meal and very dissapointing. I actually feel a little sick thinking back on it! Also a point to note please train your waitresses better! I used to waitress for years and I have never seen such appalling training especially in a Hilton. I hope this helps others to decide before eating in this hotel!

“Very well placed, but that's it.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

This hotel is very well placed in the center of London. Just close to Hyde Park in the corner of Baywater road and queensway road. Apart from that, this hotel is very small and the room I had was with a single bed. Standard breakfast, nothing special. A place to go if you really need to be in the center of London.

Room Tip: Make sure you won't have a single bed if you don't like it.

Dear Exposure,

Thank you for your constructive comments on this forum. Your comments are well received and I have shared it with our management team.

Our hotel being a historically listed building it becomes challenging to modify it structurally without prior approval from the local government officials.

It was a pleasure having you with us and it will be a delight to welcome you back and show the hotel under better light.

Yours sincerely,
Harun Dagli

“What a relief!”

My wife and I had begun to despair of finding a London hotel which did not disappoint. At the last two - I'll mention no names to avoid their embarrassment - both rooms and service were very disappointing. No wonder the Brits are such a hardy race - they shower in barely lukewarm water, which was the only sort available at these two.

At the Hilton Hyde Park, however, we found no cause for disappointment or dissatisfaction. The rooms were comfortable and, in spite of overlooking the main road, quite quiet. The breakfasts were especially good, with a wide variety of tasty dishes, and the dining room staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. By the end of the week, we felt almost like family.

The rest of the staff were also friendly and helpful. When we left the hotel, we knew we would have no problem where to book when we next visit London.

Room Tip: Dont' be afraid to ask for a change if you are not happy with the room assigned to you.

“Not worth the price”

I work out of London during the week so I stay in a variety of Hilton Hotels (Diamond Member)

I have used the Hyde Park Hilton on a number of occasions, on each occasion there has always been some sort of discovery or incident which disapoints.

As a Diamond member usually the hotel is pre-advised that an Honors member is visiting. On every such occasion - bar one, I have had to tell the staff I am a honors member upon checking in, by which time any upgrades and perks are too late.

I also find that the express checkout does not work, as I find I have to ring up 2 weeks later for a copy of the bill which hasnt been sent to me. I am in such occasion at the moment- where I find myself disputing the bill from over a month ago. They have amended the bill twice as they confess to it being their mistake, but the bill still isnt correct, and infact the bill now looks overly edited and confusing now. I am still awaiting a call from the manager as they havent corrected it yet. Though i have rang up - very little help or apologies have been offered.

Other services are also sub standard for example - on one occasion I paid £18 for a 'mixed grill'. What i actually recieved was probably the most disgusting attempt at cooking ive seen since working in the capital.

I asked for steak medium rare- but it was tough and brown/grey throughout, and a little cold. It had curled up at the edges and seemed to me like it had been microwaved. The 'Peppercorn sauce' had the consistency of snot, wet to touch, yet glutinous and gel like. I would dip the fork in to find the sauce not sticking to the fork for example. Horrible to look at. Half a tomato which had been slightly cooked on one side, but pretty much remained an uncooked tomato. That was it... for £18!

On a plus they did provide complimentry fruit - an apple - which on closer inspection had a hole puncturing right through the centre. It looks like it had been held on a skewer of some sort. I complained and had the dish sent back with no charge, by which time it was about 10pm and was too late to eat.

Cottage pie is also interesting for over £10 is very small- with about 8 forks worth of food.

Only plus side is possibly the waiters who scurry about in the evenings, they offer a smile and are enthusiastic to ensure your eating experience is pleasant. If anyone reading this from Hilton - please praise your waiter staff.

Its close to the tube (literally on top of) but i would seriously consider trying another Hilton if you are after points. The Metropole is a little further out has more services (Gym with pool etc) 3 restaurants, and happier staff. It also as a tube very close by.

Docklands is also good if you work in Canary wharf - like me.

I dont like leaving poor reviews, but this hotel lets me down on every occasion... and there have been many. I would avoid until the hotel sorts out their act, it seems im not alone.

Room Tip: Ive stayed in a few, there are no tips... would probably avoid?

“Just not up to standard....”

I had a week of business in London after ten days in the fabulous ITC and Hilton hotels in India. The comparison is so dramatic, its probably not fair to publish this review. Lets start with the good parts, I am a Hilton Diamond member so I was upgraded to a larger room with a bay window overlooking Hyde Park, it ends there. I have stayed at most of the Hilton properties in Central London, this one was my least favorite.

My room was unavailable at check in and the staff is not well skilled in managing customers and they simply say, its being cleaned and go silent. It feels like a tourist hotel although there is a fair number of business travellers. The rooms have Ikea type furnishings that are not attractive or comfortable. There are small things wrong that are not typical of Hilton, perhaps not significant, but enough for to lower ones opinion. My major complaint was stains on the sheets, which were promptly changed at my request.
The location is great for the Tube, but the neighborhood (restaurants and pubs) is lousy.
The staff, simply going through the motions, not one person offered any more than the bare minimum of there training.
It not a bad place, simply mediocre.
