I was delighted to read your recent review of the hotel and pleased that you found the room comfortable and enjoyed the food. Your comments with regards to the sauce are very important and I agree the chef makes lovely sauces that accompany many of his dishes; he did take note of your comment and will review how much he puts on the plate in future. With regards to coffee in the morning this must be perfect, I can assure you this is close to my heart and the Restaurant team are fully aware of the importance of good hot coffee, I am sorry that we did not deliver this to you. Thank you for the review, we use your comments very constructively. Regards Matthew Moffatt General Manager

“Quiet, relaxed retreat, but close to central London”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I visited this hotel following treatment at the British Hernia Centre, which is just down the road. The BHC recommend the Holiday Inn Brent Cross for the night of your operation, but this hotel is a great alternative option, being close by and having a good relaxed atmosphere. I booked our room a few days before at a bargain rate of £99.00, B&B and we also had a two course dinner in the restaurant for £23 a head, from their economical Market Menu.

I can find little or nothing to complain about. Our twin room was compact, but still had space for a small round table and three chairs and full size bathroom (bath & shower). The hotel don't charge extra for room service, which is welcome.

Our dinner was fine. Small portions, but I didn't have much appetite anyway! One comment for the chef about the sea trout. If you make a delicious sauce, why dribble a tiny amount on to the plate and leave the trout, broccoli and mashed sweet potato dry?

Breakfast was good - there are a wide range of hot options to order and an ample buffet.Although the menu promised homemade jam and honeycomb honey but this seemed to be absent. The coffee also could be improved - it wasn't particularly hot and was obviously made in bulk. Why not provide guests with their own cafetiere?

Thank you very much for your recent review of Hendon Hall Hotel; I was delighted to read that you had a comfortable stay. With regards to the breakfast offering there should always be home made jam and Honeycomb, I am very sorry that they were not available, I have spoken to the Head Chef and he will ensure this does not happen again. “New Year's Eve. (sallyandpat, Devon)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

Our best man (all of 25 years ago!!) Steve, his wife Carole, my wife, Sally and myself stayed here on New Years Eve and booked the Gala dinner, Champagne reception and breakfast the following morning. The event was meant to be special, since Steve and Carole live in Stockport and we live in Devon and only get to meet about 4 or 5 times per year, although we do manage to go on foreign holidays together occasionally. Upon arriving at Reception(12:30) we realised we were early and asked if we could leave our luggage and go for something to drink/eat. The very polite and helpful Receptionist told us our rooms were ready and walked us to them. Steve and Carole arrived about 15 minutes later and received the same polite, prompt response.
We arranged to meet in the bar, where Chris, on more than one occasion during our stay, was extremely helpful. We had a snack, went for a stroll and came back to get ready for the evening's festivities.
The 'Champagne' Reception was not truly Champagne, but was pleasant enough(I am not a champagne drinker, but the other three 'know their stuff'). At this point a jazz quartet started up in the entrance to the dining room, as the relatively new General Manager (Graham, I think) stopped to ask us how everything was. We had a conversation about the hotel and he said most of the guests were staying for the Gala dinner, about 40, and entertainment. I said, jokingly, I hope it's not jazz all night, since none of the four of us are jazz lovers, to which he replied "yes it is!!"
Our meal was of a high standard, and the service was superb, aided by the two bottles of wine included in the deal. However, after the meal, more jazz in one of the syndicate rooms, off the lounge( thankfully). Some of the other guests that we spoke to, who went into the music room, complained about the limited number of tables/ chairs, which meant that they had to stand.
The advertisement for the function said "live music and DJ" but no DJ!! so it was jazz or the television in the bar area.
The next morning, when I came to settle the account, the Receptionist asked us if everything was satisfactory. I said that, overall the staff were extremely polite, helpful, the food was good and the room (401) was very clean and comfortable but the evening was spoiled by the choice, and lack of, alternative entertainment for a New Year's Eve party. We were give a customer satisfaction survey, which we completed, outlining all of the above points, all of which were good, with the notable exception of the entertainment. Due to the nature of this particular evening, we did not consider it to be real value for money.
We all agreed that the hotel is a convenient place to stay for visiting London and would probably stay again, but would not book for another function.

“Great room, great staff and fabulous food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

I had booked a night in this hotel as an after Christmas treat for myself and my husband. We are frequent visitors to the 'Handpicked Hotel' group and hoped this would be as good as the others we had sampled but were a bit worried after reading a couple of nasty reviews from this site. However we found nothing to grumble over. On checking in we were greeted warmly and proffessionally and our requests met immediatley (I like fresh milk in my room and was brought a jug up within minutes of my asking); our room was really lovely and quite quirky with a raised galleried section looking through large bowed windows to the garden. We had dinner included in our deal and I can't praise Colin, our chef, highly enough as our dinner, off the market menu, was truly wonderful. My husband was extolling its virtues continually - that in itself is amazing as he is quite critical when it comes to his food. The room was quiet during the night (I have to say here though that it was a Sunday night in January so that could have had something to do with the peacefullness). Breakfast was a lovely experience too, I ate poached eggs with hollandaise on muffins - fabulous. The whole experience was really, really nice and I would certainly visit this hotel again and indeed recommend it to my friends.

“Good option for London”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

We chose this hotel in preference to a long-stop-over at Heathrow, but I think it would be equally good as a base for London sight-seeing, rather than taking a teeny, frighteingly expensive central London room. It has free parking, and ok transport links into town. It is 30 minutes by car to Heathrow airport - and probably about the same into London. We passed the morning with a leisurely breakfast and a drive up to nearby Hampstead Heath, which was all very pleasant.

Reasonably priced; well appointed, decent sized room and bathroom; staff very pleasant; the garden looked nice too. Breakfast was fab - lots of choices to order, and in addtion, a decent buffet. Have to say, the walls did seem a little thin - however, it was New Year's Eve, so possibly there was more noise than usual.

Would happily use again.

Thank you for your recent review and I was so pleased to read your comments, breakfast here at the hotel has plenty of choice and such an important meal to get right. I did note your comments about the noise; normally the hotel is very quiet however as you noted New Years Eve is the exception. I do hope I can welcome you back to the hotel soon.
