“Excellent Service in a Lovely Area of London”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We stayed at the Durrants Hotel on a Thursday night in January for a couple of days in London for shopping and the theatre. It is a great family owned hotel where the staff were well trained and nothing was too much trouble. Our room at the front was not over large but classically decorated clean and comfortable. I asked for a hairdryer as they only had a wall one in the bathroom and one was brought up in minutes. The hotel was off Maryebone High Street which has a great little community of indendent shops and deli's- you don't feel like a tourist in this part of London. Its quite central and a good place to stay if you know London quite well and don't mind walking (or getting a taxi) - we walked back from Leicester Sq in 20 minutes but if you are doing London by tube its about 12 mins walk to Baker St one way and Oxford Circus the other.

“Delightful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

It seems there must be a programme of renovation proceeding at this hotel, because the room we had was excellent, in contrast to some of the reviews below. Very comfortable bed, good feather pillows, beautifully appointed and well equipped bathroom, walk in wardrobe, mini bar and excellent quick room service of morning tea. We were there for a function, which was very well run, and all of the staff we met - bar, reception, porter, breakfast were welcoming and professional. The main areas of the hotel, especially the spy and regatta rooms and the cosy little bars, are delightful. it is marvellous to find such old school charm combined with modern facilites in central London. I would happily return

“URGENT FACELIFT NEEDED FOR THIS LOVELY, OLDSCHOOL PLACE”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

An exquisite, very british old-school charming place.

(Despite front desk is messy with payments/creditcards, maids are loud and chatty in the corridors early morning) service is charming and kind of efficient.
The bar, dining and public rooms are pleasant.

But the (overheated, run down) rooms, what a DISASTER!

Paint and wallpaper chipping off, no minibar, very basic toiletry, not a shoe mitt.
The carpet is dusty and does not look clean at all.
Cannot open the windows, or easily operate the decaying curtain system.
Bedding is plain old and unconfortable (ok sheets, but the terrrrrriible -eeeekkkk- little blanked and lumpy & flat pillows are simply unacceptable).

4 stars only on the paper, the overall maximum deserves 2

Renovation and refurbishment needed urgently! otherwise, never again.

“New Years Eve”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

I stayed with my husband in a family room, although we did not need the family room facilities if you did need them it would be great, toys provided, it was a lovely room and very clean and comfortable, more pillows provided in the wardrobe. Staff were very friendly and polite also very helpful. 24 hour reception. We did not have breakfast however we did find a lovely place for breakfast about 5 minutes walk away. The bar is lovely and it had a fire in it. The hotel has a classic old fashioned look about it with leather and good quality fixtures and furnishings. The Wallace collection over the road is also excellent, we were able to walk everywhere we needed so good location.

“What a disappointment”

We booked this hotel as a base to see in the New Year. Upon arrival, we were greeted by lovely porter, but the receptionist left a whole lot to be desired, firstly she said we had paid for our 2 night stay in full, then she told us we needed to pay for the second night, this we expected as we had been unsure as to whether we would use the 2 nights, we were then informed that they would need to take a 50 deposit incase we used a 'mini bar', we thought this was fine and as this is standard practice in all London hotels, we were not at any point asked if we required breakfast or explained about the services they provide, check in times, room service, bar times, if we needed a wake up call etc. We were however told even though we arrived after 14-00 hours that we would need to wait for rooms, we then stated it was after this time and were told quite rudely that they had a lot of rooms to clean. When shown to our small but cleanish room by the porter who is a credit to the establishment, there was no tea making facilities or even the mini bar we had paid the deposit for. The next day we were asked to speak to reception to be told that the receptionist that was so rude had actually taken the deposit for the minibar and not reserved the payment as stated and they would need to refund us when we checked out. We didn't argue at this point as mistakes can be made, but this on top of our first experience was not pleasant. Upon checking out the manager needed to be called to authorise the refund of the 100 they had taken, not 50 as firstly stated for the non existant mini bar. Don't go, not worth the price and not worth the parking fee either. Manager is a rude as his receptionist with every excuse in the book, even invented a few of us own... like we don't tell guests everything about what we offer!!!!

Room Tip: just don't bother
