“A backpackers would be better”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2012 NEW

Stayed here recently for four nights and all I can say is disgraceful. After specifically requesting bedding configuration for two couples we were shocked to find that three beds were upstairs and one downstairs. The room was absolutely filthy and the courtyard adjoining our room had not been cleaned for a long time. The internet did not work in our room and on explaining this to the reception she was extrememly rude and pig headed. Considering it cost seven pounds for the night I was a little upset. When the manager came later he organised a refund but only after much debate. The professionalism was non existent especially from the young girl who clearly has no training in the industry. On checking out we requested an extra half an hour to leave to which we were informed would cost ten pounds extra. And then there was the breakfast, would have got a better feed if I was a farm animal. As per my title I think the backpackers next door would have been better, mind you they don´t quieten down until 1-2 am. You can hear the people above and below going to the toilet through the paper walls, the list goes on but I dont have time to write an essay.
DO NOT STAY HERE YOU WILL THROWING YOUR MONEY AWAY. There are many hotels in the area that I dare say far surpass this calamity of an establishment.

“Excellent location, more like a hostel than a hotel though”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2012 via mobile

Stayed here for 2 nights and I have to say its in a really great location - right between Bayswater and wonderful Notting Hill. We got the room for a (relatively) cheap price and we werent expecting too much really given we'd be out and about most of the time and just using it as a base. Despite these low expectations I have to say we were very disappointed with the 'hotel' as it really was more a hostel than a hotel.

Very scruffy and old fashioned and in need of a major overhaul. Very poorly insulated from noise from both the street outside and the rooms beside and above our room. Seemed to be mainly foreign tour groups eg teenagers etc staying there the weekend we were there. Carpets were filthy and I didnt like having to put my bare feet down on them - however in fairness to the cleaners the rooms were very clean and carpets hoovered daily. Breakfast is down in the dirty basement and is a strange set up, but enough to set you up for the day with tea, toast, eggs, cheese etc.

Overall I wouldn't return here or recommend it to anyone. Good location but plenty of other hotels around the same area to choose from the next time!

“How can people seriously be recommending this place!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2012

I stayed here for 3 nights, based solely on the cost and proximity to my new place of work. The hotel is pretty clean and the receptionist when I checked in very pleasant. OK so far. Unfortunately, the rest of my stay went seriously down-hill. The room was old and tired although functional. But this is a old building with creaky wooden floors and wafer-thin walls. When the next door occupant passed wind - as he did with the frequency and ferocity of a circus elephant - it sounded as if he was with me in the room! A few pints of beer later and I managed to get some sleep. Unfortunately at 4AM I was rudely awoken by a fight in the corridor outside my room. I rang the receptionist to complain. Whilst he was apologetic there was no action and the noise continued for another 2 hours on and off. I complained to the Receptionist again next morning. Her response was that I should not worry, the builders who occupy the room opposite me only go clubbing on a Tuesday night so I should be OK for the rest of my stay! When I insisted they reluctantly changed my room. Second night was uneventfull but the bed was probably the worst I have ever experienced in any hotel. Night three, I was woken again, this time at 2AM.....with the noise continuing for about an hour.
OK at times you can't blame a hotel for the quality of its guests. However, you need to be aware that this hotel is not at all purpose designed, noise really travels (expect banging doors and creaking floor-boards as a minimum) and it attracts a young, 'fun-loving' crowd for whom sleep doesnt seem to be a priority. Aviod, aviod, aviod........

Room Tip: Try a different hotel...or ask to avoid the Builders (especially on a Tuesday night).

“Perfect location, but not so relaxing.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2012 via mobile

Chose this hotel for a weekend with friends. The location is excellent, but I agree with some of the other reviews, that the rooms are on the small side and you hear everything, so it's not the best place to relax. But our room was clean, the beds fairly comfortable, and the bathroom looked newly renovated. I also agree that the breakfast isn't any good - but there are many places offering breakfast close by. The reception staff is competent but could be more smiling, it depends a lot on who's there that day.
