“Vanilla - neither great nor terrible”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Excellent location - I was attending evening function at Natural History Museum. Initially allocated room on 5th floor - I asked if there was a lift "only to the 4th floor". I asked for another room - offered Lower Ground. Settled for room on 3rd floor. Very small, with bad drains smell in toilet (not uncommon in London hotels). Room very clean, bed very comfortable. TV did not have music channel. Not able to sample breakfast (starts at 7.00am - would have made 6.30am start) as had to leave to cross city for early business meeting. Liked air con / heating in room. Overall, I might return as the tariff is good for central London. Very pleasant reception staff.

Room Tip: Avoid 5th floor - no lift

“pretty average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I stayed here for a couple of nights for work. The reception staff were friendly and polite. My room was ridiculously small though - I could hardly get a small suitcase in, there was only about a foot and a half of space around the bed and I couldn't get the chair out from the dressing table without a struggle because it jammed into the bed. The bathroom was quite spacious in comparison! Breakfast was fine though - fruit, cereal, toast, herbal tea as well as coffee etc, and again very friendly and helpful staff. There were cooked items avaibllable but I didn't try them. I did use the bar and this was very well priced for London. The location is pretty good - near some shops/cafes and a tube station so as long as you were able to get a decent sized room it should be fine, but I have no idea if there are better sized rooms!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. I was delighted that you found our team to be friendly and welcoming.

With regards to our room size, unfortunately our room size does vary within the hotel due to the layout. Why not try our executive bedrooms on your next stay with us. These rooms are spacious and have a seating area. Alternatively our Garden Rooms have an outside balcony over looking gardens.

We look forward to your next stay with us.

Kind Regards,
Nicki Ristow

“not the best hotel in London for the room rate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

although the first impression upon arrival was a very good one, the devil was in the details; everything was clean and working properly, no complaints there, but it's the little things that disappointed, like the staff, that was predominantly Eastern European or Spanish speaking; it was hard to understand what they were saying and they lacked the finesse of the language, so there were no typical British pleasantries but rather minimal conversation style. Well, I didn't go there to have a chat with the employees, but when compared to other hotels (see my review of the Park International Hotel) the staff seemed almost unfriendly.
Same with the breakfast room and staff.

Rooms were more or less spacious, bathrooms were rather big in comparison and very well (and stylish equipped), no refrigerator in the room though; small flat screen TV (but excellent picture quality); breakfast has everything you might think of, from yoghurt, cereals over fruit to beans, bacon and sausages. Coffee rather British, but excellent tea! The staff only takes away the used dishes when you demand it so speak up if you don't want to eat between towers of small dishes.

Location is great, bus stop right in front of the hotel and subway station just across the street.

Big minus: we had such dirty windows that we couldn't see anything.

“Clean hotel, reasonable rate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Location is good, several tube stations within walk-able distance and situated in an affluent area of London.
Check in was smooth and easy, staff were friendly and helpful.
Rooms very clean and modern, Bathroom also spotless,
A bit on the smaller side, but that's London for you.
I got this on a deal ( double room for £ 80) which was reasonable for central London.

Some of the rooms also seem to have balconies, which is good.

All in all, recommended for a brief stay in central London if you can get it at a reasonable rate.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony, especially in summer.

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for your kind comments and for taking time to share your views with the Trip Advisor community. It is very encouraging for us all at The Cromwell to receive such positive feedback.

Due to the layout of the hotel, the room size does vary. Our Garden Executive rooms have a private balcony over looking the gardens. These rooms are extremely popular in the spring and summer months.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your review. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us.

The Cromwell completed a full refurbishment in June 2007. In 2009 we purchased the adjacent property which increased the size of the hotel . Our maintenance team work extremely hard to ensure the whole hotel is kept to a high standard.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Kind Regards,
