“Quaint, upscale Victorian charm.”

I stayed five nights at the Gore while traveling to London for business. This quaint, upscale boutique-hotel is loaded with Victorian charm. I stayed in room 405, with charming black canopy bed and heavy black drapes. Bathroom was very lovely. Nice amenities like full-sized ironing board, iron, heavy terry robe, and the standard soaps and such. Friendly staff, although we had trouble hailing cabs on Queens Gate, and rarely was there a concierge available to assist us. Breakfast was not included in our room, but worth the money for a delicious array of continental pastries, yogurt, granola, fruits, etc. We had dinner one night at the hotel as well, and the prix fixe is a decent value. Hotel is about a ten minute walk to the nearest Tube station, and about a 20 minute walk to Harrod's. Wi-fi was charged at a ridiculous rate of $20 UK per day. After the first day I used the guest computer on the second floor, which I usually had to myself. The lounge room on the first floor is a lovely place to unwind after a day in London.

Room Tip: Room 405 was charming. I've read complaints about room size on other reviews, but 405 is plenty...

“Beautiful boutique hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

The hotel has a Victorian but yet modern charm about it. We stayed in the Judy Garland room which was stunning. Great location for visiting the Royal Albert hall.

“Oldie but nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Excellent location if you want the Royal Albert Hall which was the main reason for picking the hotel. The welcome was warm and friendly and efficient. The rooms were lovely, old style and an en-suite bathroom and cloak room. The safe didn't work however but everthing else worked. The bed was high and firm, just how me and my wife like it.

There's a drawing room downstairs that has teas and soft drinks.

Now if it had a working safe, tea making facilities in the room, wifi and a bigger lift than all would be good. The price was ok, no breakfast but this is Kensington after all.

Room Tip: We asked for a room on the fourth floor. Quite good.

“Charming with good value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Stayed a weekend, 2 nights, in January 2012. When I booked a Deluxe room on the hotels own homepage I requested any of their signature rooms and ended up in the Miss Ada room, (208) my favourite! It's a corner room, with thick curtain that blacked out when we wanted to, a queen four poster bed, a small sofa and a table, a writing table, TV and minibar. The bathroom had a toilet set as a throne, we laughed every time we went!

We absolutely loved the style of this hotel; rustic and warm but still very practical! There are a lot of beautiful details in this hotel, the stairway, the floors, the mirrors. It's not the newest furniture, people who like brand new thing might find the wooden interior in the bathroom akward, but it has such a feeling about it!

The bar area was great with skilled barstaff who served us some excellent drinks and the music was well suited for the guest and for creating good atmosphere. We did'nt eat at the restaurant but we saw it was full both Friday and Saturday night.

Breakfast was included in the offer I booked, and there was a continental breakfast buffet which we liked with yoghurts, fresh (and very tasty) fruits, croissants and toasts. If we missed something it would be some kind of cheese or ham, tomatoes a s o, but one might have gotten it if one would ask, but we didn't.. :S The breakfast staff could have been a little more swift but no big deal.

The hotel helped arranging transport for the airport, other than that we didn't use their consiglieri so we don't know about that.

The only thing we did'nt like is the annoying thing about having to pay for Wi-fi! There is at computer in the mezzanine with we used for printing our flight tickets.

But overall, an excellent hotel in a quiet, yet central, location!
