Being my wifes birthday, I wanted to take her for a nice night in London. Booked this hotel for location and seemed reasonable considering it is central London. We checked in, our room was small and the decor and furniture was tired...but no problem...until 15 minutes after we got into our room, some other guests unlocked our door and came into our room! Awkward to say the least! We didn't stress but I was concerned that they had checked two sets of guests into one room. Shortly after, we went out for a bit of lunch and sightseeing..upon our return, our key didn't work for our room door, someone in the room shouted "come back later!" Now I was annoyed. They had one again, given other guests a key to our room! Our luggage was in the wardrobe in this room! Went to reception and asked what was going on. The duty manager got involved and apologised, said he would get our luggage, transfer us to an executive room. So we had to go with him to get our luggage, took a while as the occupants did not want to answer the door. They gave us another room, quite a walk from the lift but at least we'd been upgraded. I joked as my wife and I approached the door 'I wonder who we will share THIS room with?!" I was less humorous when we opened the door to find.....this room was also occupied! Ready to flip my lid, we went all the way back to reception. Stood around while they tried to find out what was going on. Then the manager went and checked the next room offered. He came back and said, this one is fine. Offered a free bottle of wine (my wife does not drink wine) We just wanted a room to ourselves! The room we eventually got was quite nice but it really tainted our enjoyment as when we went out that evening, we were wondering what we would find in our room when we got back. Would there be people in our bed? Would our luggage be safe? The breakfast was pretty good though. Heard people saying their room was freezing and no hot water...don't think we'll go back.

“Concierge+Guest Relation+Rms Division=TMA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I stayed in this hotel for a week in January. I have been upgraded to Executive Floor. My room was not excellent but not so bad. They have very comfortable beds. Hotel is quite old and seems that it needs renovation. My room was facing to a church and there was a bar on the other side of the road. Sometimes you hear people shouting early in the morning. Helen from reception handled my c/in and all the process was perfect. While I was walking at the lobby I met with Guest Relation Manager, Mr. Erdal. He is so helpfull for any kind of requests. Also I noticed that he is the responsible person from the Middle East section of the sales department. I was there for a congress and I had also lots of friends staying in TMA. All we agreed is Erdal is superb. Reception tried to handle all our inquiries but as we were around 400 people, Erdal was the right person at the lobby. We spent so much time at the lobby, reception, bar and businesss center as well. What I and my other friends observed is, there is always a gentleman walking around who sees and hears everything between you and the staff and involves if needed. For example, I was in the business centre waiting for a empty computer and then this gentleman came and kindly asked me for what Iam waiting for. Then he asked the lady ( In charge person ) if her computer is available and told her to handle my online c/in. Everywhere you go you can feel his nice touch. Later on I met with him and learned that he is the Room Division of the Hotel, Devrim Kahramanoglu. And there is another person who was working by hearth. During our Congress there were some unexpected situations, mistakes and etc that we did not like. Time to say something about the last hero. Abdel, he is the Head Concierge of TMA. Without any expectations he helped us so much. He tried to make people happy and he dis so. We needed some suggestions about the city and he gave us complimentary dinner and massage vouchers. I just asked him where I can find a phone card and he took me out of the hotel and walked with me and showed me the shop which was 2 blocks behind the hotel. Not only Abdel, also Erdal and Devrim, I saw these 3 gentleman nearly 20 hours working in a day during our stay. I know that this is something different that you can not force people to act like that. May be you can force them to work long hours but how about working from hearth. I am writing down this review on behalf of 100 people that we all enjoyed our stay because of these 3 very kind gentlemen and their teams as well. To be honest as we were there for a Congress we do not care the location since it is perfect or room condition and etc. Good staff, good friendship and people who works from hearth can make you happy. Thank you a lot. It was a pleasure for us to met that kind of team.

“Great hotel, great prices, great staff..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Was never really aware of this hotel before I stumbled across it.. looked at the reviews (which are mixed) and looked at the website and the rooms.. the prices appealed as they appear to be doing a good deal at the moment, so thought I would try it out.

The Good

Booked an executive double. Arrived to check in, and was greeted by a super friendly 'Stefan' who said he would move me to a slightly bigger room as he felt the bed would be better.. so I happily accepted as was not expecting to get any upgrades.

The room.. very large.. almost suite like, with sofas, work area and large king bed. bed very comfortable and lots of room. Nice size bathroom and great shower.

Had some drinks in the bar downstairs, very reasonable prices and very friendly staff.

Breakfast in the Executive lounge the following morning was pretty good considering it wasn't any extra.

The Bad

Not really anything 'bad'.. but the only things to note were the decor of the rooms is very dated, but the overall hotel decor is very grand.

Room backed on to some kind of service area, and there was a lot of noise through the night, so didn't sleep as well as I could have done.

Hot food in the Exec lounge clearly had been sat around for a while.

Summary

A fantastic hotel, great prices, great staff.. will defo stay here again if the prices remain this competitive!

Well done team at Thistle!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.. my room looked onto other rooms and nothing else.

“This is a top class hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012 via mobile

Really enjoyed my stay here. As it was shortly after the Christmas break I got a great deal.
I had a double room which was massive and spotlessly clean. Staff are very professional and courteous. I will definitely stay here again if I can get it at a good price.

“Very pricey, but with totally poor attitude to guests.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I will sum it up for you so you don't have to read the whole story (though you can if you want to) - This 4 stars hotel is actually a 2 stars hotel. It takes a lot of your money and gives back poor service and an overall attitude of uncaring and disinterest. There are plenty of hotels in that neighbourhood. Choose one of them. They have free WiFi.
And if you really want the whole story...
We are a family of 4, and have 2 young kids. We came to London (not for the first time) for a short weekend getaway, and chose this hotel because it had a great offer - up to 50% off the room price. But - no extra bed / mattress in the room, and no option to pre-book breakfast. When we got to the hotel and set out to sort all of this, we were offered an upgrade. First for "free" and than for "a little more" and in the end for 70 GBP more per night. They did agree to include breakfast in that price, and since the breakfast alone was 50 GBP we took the upgrade and moved from a family room to a mini-suite on the corner of the 4th floor. The good things about the room - it has a king-size bed and a double sofa-bed, it is very very large and the view is stunning. Unfortunately, we than discovered the bad things about the room... It had 4 broken light-bulbs, it had a broken shower-head so the water went everywhere, it took 2 people to find where the switch to the towel heater is located, there were not enough towels, cups, spoons, and beddings (even though they came to set the sofa-bed after we checked in to the room). The worst part for me was the WiFi. I have stayed in planty hotels in London over the years and this was the first time that I got an "Internet costs money here" response... So there is no WiFi in the hotel except if you use the computer the hotel provided. If you want to use your own (and why wouldn't you? it is 2012), you have to pay to get BTOpenzone WiFi. But if you pay through the hotel, you not only pay the 10 GBP it costs you to get 24 WiFi access to BT. You pay an extra 5 GBP to the hotel. Why? Because they can. That is... Well... That is just WRONG.
And don't think we didn't ask. Because my husband went to talk with the manager about all those things, and got a reply of "well, that is how things are here. It is what it is" And that just sums up all the attitude and all the things wrong in this hotel - They don't care about the costumer, about you having a good time in the hotel or good service or if you ever coming back. They just don;t give a f&^%$.
Oh and you would think that it ends here. But no. it does not. Because on the next morning, we discovered that the hotel won't allow you to hook a portable DVD to the TV so the kids can watch a movie (that is what the hotel decided. No we can't make an exception. No we don't care the kids are crying), and than we discovered that the breakfast we got was not the full regular one but a "complimentary" breakfast, so you have less food and less to choose from. Than we discovered that there is a man in our room. He came to fix everything, but no one told him what was broken so he was about to leave. And again after housekeeping were in our room we were missing towels and beddings...
On our last day we got to the breakfast area at 9 (it is open between 7-11) and discovered almost no food, and nothing the kids liked. And no they can't bring a chocolate muffin from the real breakfast room becase this is a complimentary breakfast. And no we don't care that the kids won't eat.
And just so we wont leave on a high note, the taxi we ordered through the hotel didn't arrive, and we sat in the lobby of the hotel from 3:45 in the morning until 4:30 in the morning with no assistance and no one caring. They did drink coffee.
