“Ok for one night.... Just bring a pillow”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed at the hotel for one night in January 2012 as we were in London to catch a gig and just needed somewhere to sleep.

Hotel was lovely and quiet however, as people have previously said... the air con is a little fiddly and the room was a little cold.

All in all thouigh i have no complaints about the room, it was clean, plenty of towels, bathroom was spacious but was in need a lift (it was clean so these things can be ignored)

The only niggle was the pillows.... awful, flat and very uncomfortable, so if you do decide to stay at this hotel, then i sugest you bring your own.

Great location.. very close to lots of restuarants and bars aswell as Victoria Station, so less than 5 minute walk to the Tube.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet and peaceful nights sleep, ask for a room at teh back of the hotel.

“Don't be put off by the external appearance.”

Stayed here in a standard double on the night of 22nd January, mix of business and pleasure. £18 in a black cab from Kings Cross, we were initially taken to the wrong hotel (The Grosvenor), but made our way on foot to the Westminster. What a terrible exterior!! A building so ugly standing amidst heritage gems, not a good start! Inside, however, expectations were well and truly exceeded; a light, beautifully decorated and welcoming foyer, with fine Reception seating. The desk staff, however, clearly found my reservation a little confusing, although a single key was soon forthcoming and the lift 'pointed to'. The room was beyond my expectations, well beyond, a marvellously clean, airy and tidy room, with no damage to the decor or furnishings, a good sized bathroom and a window that actually opened! The bed was, sadly, a mere double, but linen clean and crisp. Best points: superb shower, fluffy towels. Worst point: Air Con was old and fiddly to work. By far the best selling point, however, was the concierge, a chap who was really helpful and keen to please - in marked contrast to the somewhat surly staff on reception! A great place to lay your head, really good value and stunningly well maintained.

“No where near 4 star quality!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We booked to stay at the Thistle Westminster because of its location, and after looking at photos online and the "4 star standard" promised we went ahead and paid the £350 for 2 nights (which is way out of our budget but wanted to treat ourselves). On arrival the building looks absolutely aweful from the outside, the walls and windows looked stained and rather like an old warehouse. However as you approach the front doors the exterior starts to look better and all of downstairs is lovely and to a very high standard with a piano in the reception area adding real grandure to the welcome area. The bedrooms however are terrible, we actually moved rooms and still werent happy but decided to get on with it and make the best of a bad situation. The rooms are oddly shaped, with the TV being almost out of view from the bed, and the decor is some what like what you would expect when staying at Butlins! Cheap blue and green carpets, curtains, bedding etc, NOT what you would ever expect at a 4 star hotel!! The coffee station was hidden under a bedside table which we thought was very odd, the hair dryer didnt work, and the wall paper opposite our bed was peeling off the wall. Also I should add that there was light shining in from the top of the door, it seems someone hadn't done a good job of covering up a window situated there (this became an issue when trying to get to sleep). The staff however were friendly mostly, and breakfast was lovely with a wide variety of fresh items. Drinks and food are very expensive here, and to order anything off room service means paying a £5 charge, so to order a simple soft drink costs close to £10! I wouldn't ever stay here again, mainly due to the bedrooms being in such a state, but also this is far too expensive for what should be a 2 star hotel in my oppinion. Stay in a travel lodge, at least you know what you're getting there!!

“Prehistoric....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Great experience, averagely priced, but my god, this hotel needs a refurb desperately......the rooms are ok in size, but everything about this hotel, from the carpet to the wall paper to the sofa coverings to the bed covers scream out "help me now".

There are better hotels in this area at the same price....go there instead.

Dear ddnlogo

Thank you for your recent review of the Thistle Westminster .

I was pleased to read that it was a great experience and that you felt the rooms were a good size , but sorry to see that you did not like the décor which is a little traditional and not to everyone’s taste . However our rooms are large , quiet for a central London location and very clean .

Kind regards

“Good central London Location if you get a cheap deal...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

I stayed Hete because it was a cheaper option to its sister hotel in Victoria. Not comparable in quality though. The rooms are small and rather odd shaped and its like walking into a 1980's themed room. The aircon IS Not aircon. It blows out hot air, or hotter air so DON'T stay Hete in the summer months unless you have a couple of large fans booked! The bed was uncomfortable but nice pillows but I was in a non smoking room that stable of smoke! I coughed all night. Carpet needs airing or renewing.
The bathroom was tiny and I was disappointed with the cheap toiletries and lack of towels. No face cloths and not a vanity pack in sight...
If your in London overnight or for a couple of days to sightsee then its perfect but don't think its anywhere near 4*
The check out was slow as the guy was training and not certain how to complete it. All in all I would suggest that if you want luxury of diets, don't book Here unless you get a really cheap deal.

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for completing a review of the Thistle Westminster and for your constructive feed back which we take extremely seriously .

The hotel has a centralised heating and air cooling system and in the winter we only have heating and the Summer air cooling , the rooms do not have individual thermostatic controls .However we do have fans and heaters that we can bring to the room.

I am pleased that you felt that the location of the hotel was ideal and that you felt it was perfect for sight seeing .

Kind regards
