Stayed here in a standard double on the night of 22nd January, mix of business and pleasure. £18 in a black cab from Kings Cross, we were initially taken to the wrong hotel (The Grosvenor), but made our way on foot to the Westminster. What a terrible exterior!! A building so ugly standing amidst heritage gems, not a good start! Inside, however, expectations were well and truly exceeded; a light, beautifully decorated and welcoming foyer, with fine Reception seating. The desk staff, however, clearly found my reservation a little confusing, although a single key was soon forthcoming and the lift 'pointed to'. The room was beyond my expectations, well beyond, a marvellously clean, airy and tidy room, with no damage to the decor or furnishings, a good sized bathroom and a window that actually opened! The bed was, sadly, a mere double, but linen clean and crisp. Best points: superb shower, fluffy towels. Worst point: Air Con was old and fiddly to work. By far the best selling point, however, was the concierge, a chap who was really helpful and keen to please - in marked contrast to the somewhat surly staff on reception! A great place to lay your head, really good value and stunningly well maintained.
