“somewhere to sit down...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

I have stayed at this hotel before - its cheap and cheerful and local to where I was working. Lat time, no problems. This time we got to the room and there wasn't the usual sofa to sit on. All there was was a desk chair and the bed. I enquired at reception, and was told that if you book a family room you get the sofa, but if you book a double room you dont get it, althoiugh the price is the same. I pointed out that I had stayed at several Travelodges over the years, never booked a family room, but always got a sofa. The receptionist said that most Travelodges only have family rooms, but this one has both. Thank you Travelodge for making this obvious!
No other real problems - breakfast was acceptable, rooms and corridors clean. One thing that did concern me was that late on Sat night there was a terrible commotion coming from the corridor - it sounded like someone was trying to kick the door of another room down. As there was no phones in hte room, and I couldnt see a telephone number for reception so I could ring on my mobile, there was nothing I could do. I certainly wasn't going to go into the corridor to investigate, as it sounded very violent.

Room Tip: make sure to book a family room

“The reviews say it all........”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

Well this place has double the amount of terrible reviews than it does have excellent ones so I rest my case. I can understand why as stayed here on Saturday 11th Feb and had a shocker of a room. It was firstly freezing cold (which we thought would improve and not much you can do about it at 2am when you arrive back and the heater does not work!) and secondly the bed was so concave in the middle that it was impossible to sleep on! You could not even get a lather out of the bar of soap in the bathroom and overall the room looked dowdy and unkempt. We were disappointed to say the least and it did ruin our evening to some extent. It is not the first time I have stayed and the other experiences were also not fantastic but at the end of the day people will continue to book as its a cheap (although £100 for a room for one night is not that cheap!) room and so central to Covent and London in general. We never had the breakfast but it looked busy. The Internet access is a rip off at £1 for 20 minutes - we put £2 in before it would work and of course there was no one about to tell to get a refund! Despite the central location I wont be rushing back again. I did complain and was given a 50% discount on the room which was fair I thought but I expect someone else has already been put in the room again! The place it in need of a general overhaul.

Room Tip: Check the heaters work before unpacking!

“Pleasantly surprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We read some concerning reviews prior to going on our trip to London, but on arriving at the hotel was pleasantly surprised. Our room was room 603 in the Drury Lane part of the hotel, it was warm, clean, tidy and comfortable, we had a nice time and the breakfast was quite good too. Hotel could do with a few more staff at breakfast time and also in the bar at night, but apart from that it was an enjoyable stay and will definately be staying there in April.

Room Tip: Go for a high room in the Drury Lane part of the hotel

“No frills, but great value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

A one night stop as part of a weekend theatre visit. This hotel has friendly staff and is clean and comfortable.
The rooms are basic, but all that is needed for a short stay;
the hotel is very well placed for the centre of London and its attractions. Drinks from the bar were a reasonable price and breakfast was good value.
We were in a ground level room and were concerned that it may be noisy. However, it was very quiet and we slept very well.
Overall, a great place to stay for a trip to the theatre or sightseeing.

“compact, clean and cheap!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I read through loads of the reviews on here for this hotel but as I was able to get a room for 2 for only 19.50 in the centre of London I felt it was worth a punt. That said I had my credit card ready to bail and find somwhere else if it was dirty! I am pleased to say it was better than alright. I asked for a room up high and refurbed, the very nice staff advised that the refurbed rooms are experiencing a heating problem due to the boiler and that I would be better off not going in one of them so I said it was up to them to recommend me a room and they gave me one on the 9th floor of the Drury lane site. The room was small but perfectly good, the bathroom was spotless and the room clean and very warm! The tv worked and my daughter and I enjoyed watching a film in bed whilst having naughty snacks from the lobby vending machine. The next day we went to breakfast - which was free for her - and again it was lovely. I cannot fault anything about our stay and the view out of our window was great, in fact we could see a huge building which we found was the British Museum and we headed up there when we booked out. A lovely stay.

Room Tip: Be polite and ask the staff what they would recommend. Higher is better I think.
