The hotel is still undergoing some refurbishment - mainly decoration - it does not cause a problem atall.
Perfectly placed for theatre, touring london and shopping. Within walking distance of Covent Garden, Oxford Street and Kings Cross / Euston stations. Russell Square tube is a minutes walk away.
First class food, clean and comfortable hotel.

Stayed here myself for work. The room was small but had clearly been refurbished recently and very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Service at reception was very efficient. The only faults were the air conditioning unit which was quite noisy and also the secondary glazing was left open but this was not apparent as the blind had been closed and the room was very cold and it took me a while to find out why the room was so cold.
These were all small things and would certainly not put me off going back and would consider this hotel if I was staying in London again for work or pleasure. A big well done to the staff for excellent service.

Stayed last weekend in Jan 2012, From entering the reception to checking out it was great. Reception was friendly and efficient, room clean, comfortable and warm(it was freezing in London that weekend) and well furnished. Food was excellent and the restraunt staff couldn't do enough for us, Naviene (hope I've spelt that properly) was great.
Had only slight hiccup but it was dealt with proffesionally and curtiously.
Thouroughly recomend a stay here, we loved it, is was a special weekend for us and they just made it right for us.
Will also say that while we were there the fire alarm went off and an evacuation had to take place, and it was reasuring the efficency of the evacuation procedure, although this was a false alarm comforting to know their procedures work. Well done :-)

Hotel Russell is a hidden gem of a hotel in London. Conveniently located with easy access to all surrounding attractions.

The building itself is impressive with the inside a delight of marble staircases and opulent decor. However the warmth and charm of the building is surpassed by the warmth and charm of the staff.

Wonderful service, wonderful staff, wonderful food. The Russell is a firm favourite and we look forward to a regular stays.
