My wife and I spent a short weekend at the Sherlock last week. The hotel's location is excellent, close to numerous restaurants, supermarkets and public transport.
Upon arrival we were warmly greeted at the front desk and told that we had been upgraded to an executive class suite.
We parked our suitcase in the room and immediately left to shop in Oxford street which is a short ten minute walk away.
Upon our return, we discovered that the room had two single beds put together instead of a double bed and unfortunately the heating wasn't working.
The nice lady at reception immediately transferred us to a very nice room, with double bed and heating and we settled down nicely.
In short :
Service at reception is very efficient.
Their assistance and earnest understanding were second to none, as they honestly did their utmost to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.
Concierge - chapeau ! Highly efficient in restaurant recommendations, transportation arrangments and just nice young men who greet you nicely when you open the hotel door.
Rooms - the executive grade room that we reserved was clean and spacious well equipped with bath robes, slippers, safe, mini bar, sat tv and Internet. Lovely.
Breakfast - a downside to the hotel experience. Even though the breakfast is value for money, it could be improved. Coffee was bad, very bad. Pastries had dried out under the heating lamp and as result were very dry and greasy. Desite the nice selection of food, I personally think that more fresh vegetables could have been in order. I also didn't understand why I had to pay for fried eggs instead of the standard pale and watery scrambled eggs and for two sausages that on one day were served freely as part of their special continental breakfast, whereas the next day became a la carte - there is no way that anyone should have to pay 6 pounds sterling for the luxury of eating two sausages for breakfast.
None the less, the slightly disappointing breakfast did nothing to diminish our overall satisfaction at the Sherlock Holmes hotel and we definately recommend this establishment !
Thank you
