“Exceeded my expectations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I booked a single room at this hotel because it was in a great location for seeing an event at the Alexandre Palace. The single room at The Raglan compares favorably with other single rooms I've stayed in England. The size of the room for a solo traveler is fine and the furnishings are all modern and in good order. One thing that really impressed me was the free Wi-Fi that they offered. I can't count the numbers of 4 and 5 star hotels that I've been to that either had no in room wi-fi, or if they did, it was offered at an outrageous price. When I compare my experience staying here to some of the earlier reviews that were posted for this hotel, I can tell that their management has worked hard to address issues brought up in these reviews.

We stayed here on friday, this was a christmas gift from our children. The room was lovely and very clean, the staff were very friendly, the breakfast was lovely and hot and there was plenty. We would stay here again. Thank you to Red Letter days, this was booked through them, it was great.

Room Tip: we were in the attic (we called it the penthouse) it was very spacious so ask for this room if you d...

“It does a job!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

The Raglan is ok, but lacks being special. The welcome was warm & friendly but once past the facade of the spacious and nicely designed reception, it all seemed a bit tired. A narrow staircase led to a cold bedroom with a view over airconditioning ducts. The room had a fabulous big bed (well two singles pushed together), the bathroom was small but clean (tiny towels though, with a faint whiff of vinegar!), and the loo needed a degree of brute force to flush successfully. Breakfast was adequate (rather scruffy laminated menus were a bit grim). I was so pleased we booked with breakfast included because £10 a head for a 'full English' for room only guests was steep for the quality on offer. The staff were all great - nice touch offering a biscuit and a bottle of water on departure.

“Reet Petite!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

My partner and I had stayed at the Roseview last year and thought we'd give The Raglan a try this time. From the outside the Raglan looks a bit more up-market than the Roseview further down the road and yet behind the ostentacious facade the 2 hotels are very similar.

THE COST
We booked the Raglan through Hotels.com and got a 10% discount on the room rate. For 2 nights we paid £135.00 instead of £150.00. We had to pay £8.95 each for full English breakfast (£35.80 for 4). Altogether the cost for the room for 2 nights and 4 breakfasts came to £170.80.

THE ROOM
We were given room 221 which was located on the second floor. Those with mobility problems need to be aware that there is no lift and many stairs. The stair carpet had seen better days in some areas, as did the overall decor on the stairs and landings.

The room itself was tiny, and the walls were paper thin, you could hear people in the room above. It was well decorated, but not much room to move in. The dressing table was small and cluttered with all manner of things so it left little space for your own stuff. The bed was comfy but only a double (we are used to a kingsize), and the duvet had seen better days, it was thin. The bed linen was spotlessly clean, and there were 4 plump pillows. Towels in the spotlessly clean shower room were fluffy and white. Complimentary toiletries were also supplied.

THE BREAKFAST
Breakfast was good. Fresh juices, cereals, toast, lots of fresh coffee, tea etc, and the cooked Full English was good. It really did set us up for the day. Breakfast we would give full marks.

One nice touch was when we were leaving we were given a couple of cookies and bottles of water for our journey home.

Overall The Raglan is a decent hotel to stay at, it is clean with pleasant and courteous staff, and the breakfast is good. Whether it justifies its cost over that of the Roseview, as well as its rating of a 3 star 'boutique' hotel is questionable. The choice dear reader is yours.

Thanks for posting your review and for your very constructive comments and observations. The Raglan was extensively refurbished a few years ago and as the property is several old houses interconnected the bedrooms vary in shape and size and the rates to some extent reflect this. This adds to the character and quirkiness of the property....so different to modern purpose built hotels!

There is no lift, although we are always happy to assist with luggage, and yes the corridors are windy and twisty and as such the walls and the corridor carpets get a bit of a "hammering" and our housekepping and maintenance team work tirelessly in these areas to maintain standards.

There is high speed internet access throughout the building and despite our close proximity to the hustle and bustle of London outside we have a beautiful peaceful Japanese garden at the rear of the hotel to relax in.

The Raglan is a very busy, friendly hotel and the cookies and water on departure are just one example of the extra steps we take to make your stay memorable.

Hope we see you again soon.

Kind regards

David

Glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for posting a review.

Appreciated and hope we see you again sonn, even if the Darts arent on, as we are a great place to explore London from, and Muswell Hill has a wonderful "village" feel.

Kindest regards
