“Really awful, rude staff, dirty and uncomfortable”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2011

I never normally write reviews but I had to after staying here as it was so vile. I paid £39 for the night but have seen it advertised for much more. And I though I was ripped off with my price! There was no-one even at the desk when I arrived and no bell so just had to wait, then man didnt even speak when I checked in just threw a key at me and pointed at the stairs. The room size was small but fine for 1. Bathroom was in what I though was the cupboard. Was like a caravan toilet and couldnt even close the door when I was on the toilet so small. Everything was grubby, floors dirty and the bed and pillows really hard and uncomfortable. TV was fuzzy. Breakfast was white bread toast and cornflakes/bran flakes. Dust on the open jug of orange juice. Vile couldnt wait to leave!!

“Carlton: Bad&Bed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2011

small bedroom and bathroom for a couple. Opening & closing time breakfast too much reduced (8-9 am). staff very kind.Internet free. blanket and bedspread were very clean. Strenght point of Carlton hotel is located a good street, near to Victoria station and coach station, to Parliament House (Big Ben) and to Westminster. At a short distance to bus stop "24".

“Would Not Stay Again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2010

The Carlton Hotel is in an excellent area, with bus stop right outside the door and a short walk to Victoria Station. That is where it ends.
We stayed for 4 nights, had 2 rooms for 4 nights and an additional room for 2 nights for our teen age son who joined us later.
The rooms were small, cramped and cold. The bathroom was so small you couldn't shut the door while sitting. This is the first bathroom I have encountered where you could , shower, shave and brush your teeth without moving!
The breakfast was terrible. From the dirty instant coffee jars to the crusted sugar bowls there was nothing appealing about it. We only ate there once in the four days.
While the rooms were clean the beds were extremely uncomfortable.
We expected economy accomodations however this hotel was a huge disappointment.
Fortunately we spent very little time here as we were out sight seeing from early morning until after dark

“nice budget hotel, but room was FREEZING!”

I stayed at Carlton hotel for one night in October 2010. I had a single bedroom just a few steps away from the reception: the room was cute and clean, with a tiny bathroom and the breakfast (a simple one, with toasted bread, coffee and orange juice) was included in the price. Location is perfect too, as the hotel is located middle way between Victoria and Pimlico (about 10 mins walking from both stations) and #24 bus stop is very close to it too. Only drawback is that my room was very cold and I was freezing at night, don't know if the heating was broken or something had happened but I was too exhausted even to complain. Staff were very kind, apart from one of the women in the breakfast room which seemed very pissed off all the time. I'd definitely stay here again.

“Definately leave this one alone”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2010

Because our usual hotel was full, we booked in here over the internet, were told it was 10 minutes from Victoria Coach station . yes by car, 25 minutes to walk - no good with luggage at 2.30am!! The receptionist was a joke, he promised to book us a taxi for 2.15 the following morning as we had discovered they told us wrong over how long it took to walk to V.Coach station. We went out to find a cash machine and on our return, were told the taxi would be £15, for a journey taking 10 minutes, because we had been travelling all day, my husband wanted to get away as quickly as possible, but the driver was obviously one of his friends, We should have insisted he used the meter.Although we had to pay for the inclusive breakfast, we had nothing, because our early departure meant the 'kitchen' was closed - even to the staff. The room was dismal to say the least, you couldn't turn round in the shower, which was squashed into a corner, with a very shallow tray, which meant if you used it, you would probably flood the bedroom, been done before, judging by the state of the bottom of the door. The sink was very old, cracked and dirty. The staircase was uneven and dirty, no help with carrying luggage and the whole building was dirty and cramped. I would rather sleep on the floor at the bus station than stay here again and we will be reporting the state of this dump to the management and hotel watchdog.
